Huawei Honor 7X: an excellent smartphone without harming your wallet

Review of the Huawei Honor 7X smartphone and its characteristics

We received Huawei Honor 7X for review, which can be considered a prominent representative of the budget category, which is attracting more and more attention to the manufacturer. The main thing is that they did not save much on its production, offering balanced characteristics, a recognizable design and a really high-quality case. The device stands out for its 18:9 aspect ratio display and dual camera, which, combined with good battery life and a price of around $250, makes it a very interesting offer.

Bottom line

At the beginning of the year, Honor 6X was introduced and I immediately began recommending the smartphone to those who want to get a high-quality and inexpensive device for everything, including Android Pay. Fortunately, the smartphone had NFC.

With the release of Honor 7X, my recommendations shift towards the new product, because the device has an excellent, large and very comfortable screen with an aspect ratio of 18 by 9. Plus, the device boasts minimal frames, which looks really good.

Excellent software, good hardware, fairly decent cameras for its price tag (especially the front one) - Honor 7X has everything a user needs from a smartphone at the end of 2021.

The only negative is that for some reason the manufacturer removed the NFC module, so you can now forget about contactless payments. On the other hand, we once lived without Android Pay. And, I must admit, we lived not badly.

buy Honor 7X in China or here. In the first case, the smartphone will cost 13.5 thousand rubles, plus you will have to wait about a month, and taking into account the past 11.11 sale and Black Friday, and on New Year’s Eve, I’m sure it will be longer. Much.

Review of the Honor 8X smartphone

Not so long ago, Huawei presented two of their smartphones - 8X and 8X Max - bright and interesting representatives of the middle segment with a focus on a “tasty” price, which initially was not such. I managed to get an Honor 8X phone for review in the 6/64 GB configuration, albeit with Chinese firmware JSN-AL00, but this is not a problem, is it? ;)

The device arrived in a branded blue rectangular box with a seal, where the model name “8X” was printed on the lid with a note about the presence of artificial intelligence AI. At the bottom there is a sticker from which you can glean a number of data about the smartphone, such as firmware and modification, as well as contact information, and, if you are fond of hieroglyphs, something else. I couldn’t help but be pleased with the fact that the Chinese put in a protective silicone bumper and stuck a film on it, so there would be time to wait for the glass and not to be shaking over the tube, brushing off every speck of dust.

Honor 8X equipment:

1 * Honor 8X Smartphone; 1 * Silicone case; 1 * Slot Clip; 1 * USB cable; 1 * Charging block 5V/2A (Chinese); 1 * Adapter for Euro socket; 2 * Manual and warranty card

Characteristics

The rumor that Honor 8X will feature the Kirin 710 processor, designed for mid-segment devices, appeared a long time ago, and the presentation confirmed this.
The 8X is one of the pioneers that Huawei has provided with it, while the “Max” version has given users a choice of processor. The 710 version copes with all everyday tasks with a bang without any problems. It will not be difficult for the chip, in tandem with the rest of the hardware, to be your companion in surfing, messaging, calls, reading, watching videos, taking photos and videos, as well as games (if you use your smartphone in this way, although I personally am not a supporter). Main characteristics of Honor 8X:

Dimensions: 160.4 mm * 76.6 mm * 7.8 mm; Weight: 175 grams; Diagonal: 6.5 inches; Resolution: 2340 * 1080 pixels; Battery: Built-in, 3750mAh; Number of SIM cards: Two, hybrid slot; Processor: Octa-core Kirin 710; RAM capacity: 4 or 6 GB (depending on modification); Flash memory: 64 or 128 GB; Network: 2G, 3G, 4G (7 and 20 bands are not available in the Chinese version); NFC: not in the Chinese version, but in the Global version; Main camera: 20 MP + 2 MP with flash; Front camera: 16 MP; Navigation: A-GPS, GLONASS

Appearance

The device has a diagonal of 6.5 inches, fits comfortably in the hand, is pleasant to the touch, although the back glass cover is quite dirty - be prepared to either use a case or constantly wipe it so that others do not see your fingerprints. On the front there is a bright (and at the highest level even too bright) IPS LCD FHD+ display with a resolution of 2340 * 1080. Viewing angles are normal, black color looks natural, without going into other shades. Photo

At the top there is a unibrow with a camera module and sensors, which can be hidden through the settings, which will be appreciated by haters who say that this design is sad and wretched. To make the search easier, I’ll say that the settings item is located in the “Screen” branch and is called “Dark area at the top of the screen.”

On the left is a hybrid tray slot where you can simultaneously install two SIM cards and a memory card, which is very convenient.

On the right are the control buttons - the volume rocker and the power button.

At the top, on the rim of the case there is a microphone, and at the bottom there is a speaker, a microUSB charging port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a microphone dubbing.

The back cover contains the main camera modules, an LED flash, a fingerprint sensor and a proud inscription about the presence of artificial intelligence “AI Camera”.

The camera and flash are positioned vertically, at some distance from each other. I didn’t like the presence of a void between the circumference of the housing recess and the modules themselves: dust and dirt get clogged there, so take this into account and don’t forget to check the “eyes” before shooting.

The fingerprint sensor copes with its direct function well, but sometimes it still gets dull. I liked that it can also be configured to perform various commands, such as activating shooting, opening the notification panel, viewing photos, which may be useful and convenient for some.

Screen

I already said above that the smartphone screen reproduces colors well, and cooler shades appear on the face, however, in the settings there are options where you can adjust the level as you wish.
There is an eye protection mode that can serve you well if you practically sleep with the phone in your hand. It is possible to work in full-screen mode, you can change the font size, the display format of recordings, and to save battery, there is a smart mode that switches the resolution from FHD+ to HD+ if the battery charge requires it.

Desktops are also configured according to the principle of standard switching by swiping or adding a special button to the main screen, when clicked, we get into a scrolling down alphabetical carousel of applications, with the caveat that scrolling through tables to the side is still preserved.

Of course, you can change the wallpaper, set it to switch automatically at a given time interval, and install third-party themes with subsequent customization. This is why I love shells - there is always room to expand and embellish the standard icons and lock screen.

According to the test results, the multi-touch produces 10 simultaneous presses.

Hardware platform and performance

The smartphone came to me with Chinese firmware, 64 GB of flash memory and 4 GB of RAM.
In the AnTuTu benchmark, Honor 8X receives 138 thousand points for its efforts, which is a very, very decent indicator for a device that is not that expensive. The processor operates at a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz, and the Mali-G51 is used as a graphics accelerator. By the way, speaking of the built-in memory, when you turn it on for the first time, the system shows that there are about 53 gigabytes free, which can be expanded if necessary. Of course, a large number of hieroglyphs awaited me on the screen, but the Russian language was available for selection. However, if you don’t want to look in the not fully translated “Language and Input” settings menu for the ability to activate only our native language, then it’s better to immediately install AOSP or Gboard, which is what I did. The China version has a bunch of pre-installed junk, some of which can be removed or at least disabled. But there are no usual Google services.

Of course, I went after the first .apk that appeared on the network, but what a surprise it was when the applications kicked me out after installation, or simply were not activated by pressing. This applied to both the Market and the account. After some thought, I began to select possible options and eventually got to the point where I assembled a set of GMSInstaller, Framework, Google Services and Play Store, which I installed one by one, and everything worked. There is also a built-in application store - “AppGallery”, but a) it is crude and b) services are also installed incorrectly from it + the download speed is similar to what it was 16 years ago, when one mp3 track took about 25 minutes to download. As a proprietary Chinese feature, when we swipe to the right, we get to the “Hiboard” recommendations table, where news, recommendations, various services are displayed, and we also have the opportunity to view our activity - steps, calories and distance traveled. Yes, yes, you heard right, a pedometer is also built into the device, which is very convenient, since not everyone likes fitness bracelets, and monitoring your health is now a trend. I simply turned off everything possible and left only the option responsible for health.

But there are all sorts of useful things. For example, the HiCare application, which is responsible for servicing an electronic friend. Through it you can find the nearest service center, order repair of your device, or check it for problems. Well, there’s not much to say about “Huawei Health”: many are familiar with it if they have a fitness bracelet. Activity monitoring is carried out here and you can track when you have achieved good mileage during the day, and when you have been lazy. It’s a pity that in addition there is no sleep monitoring function, but then the phone would have to be tied to your hand, which is not very convenient.

The advisor application “Tips” analyzes how you use your smartphone and makes recommendations for maximizing its effective use based on the data received. It is half in English and contains common truths familiar to many, but thanks to the Chinese for their efforts anyway.

For those who like to listen to music, there is a “Party” mode, when several smartphones can be connected via Wi-Fi using a QR code and then listen to the same track in different rooms, or at any other point in a residential or non-residential premises.

There is a limited access feature that parents will appreciate. Through it, you can block access to this or that content or limit the time of interaction with it, so that your child does not engage in all sorts of nonsense instead of studying.

Well, in conclusion, it’s worth saying a few words about the protection settings, since if you go through each menu branch, you’ll have to write at least one volume of “War and Peace.” Honor 8X has the option of a standard screen lock, a lock using a password, a pattern, a fingerprint sensor or face unlock, which works very, very well, only getting dull occasionally. There are also various fine settings, for example, “Safe zone”, “Application blocking”, “Personal files” and others.

To summarize, I will say that EMUI 8.2 works correctly, is not confusing, and the friezes that pop up when switching tables are extremely rare and unnoticeable. Advertising does not creep in from all the cracks, like with another equally well-known manufacturer, who, with its new shell, turned the devices into a trade fair.

Camera

We are probably approaching the most interesting point for many who are considering a device for purchase – the camera.
The range of modes and settings of the device is large: there is a portrait mode and aperture mode, and all sorts of decorations, filters, slow motion, professional mode and even a special “Night” mode. Plus several branches of standard settings for video and photos: resolution, autofocus, watermark, etc. The artificial intelligence supported by the modules works correctly, but in some places it overdoes it, and the frames turn out too bright and unnatural, however, the pictures nevertheless look rich and colorful. Shooting outdoors and in good lighting turns out to be decent: there is no soap or noise, and the objects are detailed and very natural. However, as soon as you get under artificial lamps, the enthusiasm of the modules evaporates somewhere, capturing all objects not in the best way.

Portrait mode works well. The result is a blur of the background, and the face looks like it’s from the cover of a fashion magazine - in short, selfie lovers will appreciate the Honor 8X.

Shooting in the dark works well thanks to the built-in “Night” mode. If you stabilize the device, you can get high-quality footage, but not without slight graininess. You can further adjust the shutter speed and white balance.

Shooting text goes without any problems. The phone “sees” everything the way you need it, so you don’t have to break your eyes later trying to figure out what you filmed.

I was more than satisfied with how the zoom works. In the photo below you can see this for yourself. By the way, when artificial intelligence is turned on, zooming is not available.

Regarding video shooting, the situation is twofold: in standard shooting with 30 frames per second, the system quickly catches the object being filmed, recognizes it, and the picture turns out good. But at 60 frames, thoughtful attempts begin: the smartphone does not immediately detect objects, and it turns out to be soap without fixing it, which at the output we get the entire video with a similar display curvature. Therefore, shoot at the standard 1080 30fps setting and you will be happy.

Wireless interfaces

The phone supports 2G, 3G and 4G network standards with the caveat that 7 and 20 bands are not available in the Chinese version, as is the NFC module. But this did not affect the connection for me personally. I live in the region, and many people have problems here, but my device worked and received the signal perfectly. The speed of the Internet, both mobile and Wi-Fi, did not raise any questions - everything is good, and I was pleased with the GPS, which, upon a cold start, almost instantly finds satellites and determines the location with an accuracy of several meters.

Sound

That's it, the Chinese could have made the speaker sound better. Although you can hear your interlocutor well and the speaker is loud, there is some kind of dullness and noise, as if you are under a hood, which you nevertheless get used to. The sound in the headphones is not bad, but the 8X is unlikely to suit a music lover. This is a working smartphone that can also serve as a player, although even with various modes and equalizer settings, the ears of experts will probably highlight some mistakes. Huawei Histen allows you to select modes and the type of headphones, which is also extremely convenient.

Autonomy

The device charges from zero to 100% on average in just over two hours, and with active use of the phone, it takes an average of 24.5 hours until it is completely discharged, which is a very good indicator. For comparison, according to statistics, the screen worked for about 5 hours, and the rest of the load was distributed between various applications - instant messengers, browser, social media. networks, reading, calls, taking photos and videos, as well as simply browsing through the menu. If you constantly watch movies and TV series, then get ready for the fact that the smartphone will last about 4 hours, and then you will need to look for an outlet or take out the Power Bank.

Conclusion

I was more likely to be satisfied with the smartphone than not.
Of course, he is not without shortcomings, but for his money he works off the resource with his head held high. I certainly consider the weakest points of the Honor 8X to be video shooting in 1080 resolution at a frame rate of 60 per second and taking photos in artificial light, when it often turns out to be outright “soapy”. Of course, everything is subjective, and someone will say that you need to shoot only in “Pro” mode and then you can make candy out of... mmm, stone, but judge for yourself, how many of us take a smart phone to tinker with the fine settings when shooting ? Of course not! We all want everything, immediately and without unnecessary movements. Therefore, I take into account the standard presets and modes. I liked the beautiful and nimble shell, the general functionality of the smartphone: you can figure it out without much difficulty, and in return you get a faithful companion for every day with the ability to unlock by face and configure the fingerprint scanner for other needs, and not for its intended purpose. I’m a little picky about the worn-out body and the gap between it and the main camera - I don’t really want to pick out specks of dust from there, but maybe it’s all about the part. NFC. This is a stumbling block for many users. Well, yes, the Chinese version is not equipped with it, but the European version is welcome. Although, in my opinion, it’s also easy to take the card with you. If you are looking for a smartphone costing up to $300 that will hold a charge well during everyday use, work quickly and not glitch, while taking good photos and videos, take a closer look at the device, perhaps the Honor 8X is your option. The product was provided for writing a review by the store. The review was published in accordance with clause 18 of the Site Rules.

Equipment

Honor 7X comes in a cardboard package with an unremarkable design. This immediately reveals that the device is a budget device. Everything inside is poor - if usually each accessory has its own space, then here everything is dumped into one heap. On top lies the Honor 7X, wrapped in a package, and besides it we find a charger with 5V / 1A parameters, a microUSB cable, a silicone case, documentation and a paper clip.

HiSuite

When you connect the Honor 7X to the computer and data transfer is enabled, the internal memory is shown as expected, but the CDROM drive is also shown. This is a separate HiSuite section with legal information in a PDF file and a link to install the HiSuite software.

You must allow your device to connect to this software in the settings and allow data access in the USB connection window. After this, you will get many great options to control your smartphone from your computer. You can view a list of installed applications, remove unnecessary ones, and download Android applications from outside the store. You can see all the images, videos, contacts on the device, transfer them to or from the computer. There is a text message section where you can send and receive them, just like on the old Windows Mobile apps or the Nokia Symbian desktop apps. The Outlook section allows you to perform offline synchronization of Outlook data between your smartphone and computer via cable. Thus, this smartphone is not completely dependent on internet access.

You can't control your smartphone from your computer, but you can see what's happening on the screen and take screenshots. There is backup, restore, update and monitoring of the built-in memory.

You can display your smartphone screen on your computer in full screen mode. This allows you to watch presentations on a large screen. HiSuite's software is impressive and worth installing on your computer if you use it every day and don't want to respond to text messages on a small screen.

Design of Huawei Honor 7X

The manufacturer remains true to its traditions, continuing to develop an interesting design concept. The Honor 7X looks simply amazing. Metal was used to make the back side, and the front panel is covered with 2.5D glass. Almost the entire area is occupied by a large display, which looks very nice. The only thing we will miss is the fingerprint scanner built into the Home key. It moved to the back cover. But this is not done as clumsily as in the Galaxy S8 - it is easy to find by touch and does not cause any discomfort.

The Huawei Honor 7X review informs you that a version with gold, blue and classic black casing is available for sale. It looks best in blue - an unusual solution, while other colors have long become standard.

The arrangement of functional elements is familiar. On the right is the power and volume control button.

On the left is a tray in which you can install two SIM cards at the same time or one paired with microSD.

Everything else was placed at the bottom - a headphone jack, which fortunately was not abandoned, a speaker, a microphone and a microUSB port. The latter is a little disappointing, because in 2021, almost all devices receive improved USB-C, which supports fast charging and other benefits.

From the back side, the device looks quite nice - there is a plastic strip running above and below for the antennas, which harmoniously fits into the design. There is a dual camera module in the upper left corner and a single-section flash on the left side of it. The fingerprint scanner is located in the center - it is very easy to find blindly. Just below is the corporate logo.

As expected, the build quality is at the highest level; you wouldn’t expect anything else from Huawei. The smartphone fits well in the hand, despite its diagonal of 5.93 inches.

Appearance

The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the Honor 7X is a huge screen with minimal padding not only on the sides, but also on the top and bottom. With a display diagonal of 5.9 inches, the dimensions of the smartphone turned out to be small - like the device of previous years with a 5.5-5.7 inch screen.

We tested the device in blue, but there is also black and gold. The latter has a white front panel. In all cases, the display glass has a nice rounded edge.

All connectors are on the bottom edge. For some reason, there is still no USB Type-C among them - instead, the good old microUSB, paired with a mini-jack.

The smartphone body is made of metal. It is assembled with high quality and does not creak. The fingerprint scanner is on the back. It is convenient to use and there are no complaints about its operation. It is extremely fast, and clicking or swiping on the scanner can perform additional actions. My favorite part was opening the notification panel by swiping down.

The two main cameras are located in the top left corner. They protrude slightly above the plane of the “back”.

Mechanical control keys are located on the right side. The buttons have a nice click but are a little high, especially the volume rocker. If you need to increase the volume during a call, you will have to grab your smartphone to reach the key.

The Honor 7X has a slippery body, but the phone comes with not only a charger, microUSB cable and paper documentation, but also a transparent silicone case. The case is very thick, made with high quality, so there is no desire to throw it away right away. The most important thing is that the smartphone does not slip out of your hands.

Display

Honor 7X reviews positively mention the display and, as our review showed, it is really good here. The smartphone has a screen with a diagonal of 5.93 inches, FullHD+ resolution (2160x1080 pixels) and an increasingly popular, although still rare, aspect ratio of 18:9. With these characteristics, the pixel density is 407 per inch - an excellent result. The picture turns out to be highly detailed, no matter how hard you try, but individual pixels cannot be seen. To extend battery life, you can set the display resolution to a lower resolution in the settings menu.

The screen did not have rounded edges, which became fashionable in 2017. But it is covered by a protective glass designed using 2.5D technology. There is no air gap, so the image literally lies on the surface. Colors are not distorted even when using the Honor 7X at extreme angles. A high quality oleophobic coating was applied to the surface of the display. The brightness reserve is enough for comfortable work both in the sun and in a dark room.

If this is your first acquaintance with 18:9 screens, then the impressions will be incredible. As a result, you simply cannot go back to standard 16:9 displays; they will seem like last century, outdated technology. Huawei Honor 7X 32gb review revealed that not all content is displayed in this format yet; if there is no support, then the image is displayed in the standard 16:9 ratio, and small black bars appear at the edges.

In most cases, this misunderstanding is eliminated by pre-installed software that adjusts the picture to the 18:9 ratio. But it still doesn’t cope with its work everywhere; for example, there are frames on YouTube. Over time, the problem will lose its relevance; now all new applications will be released with support for this format. The screen occupies 77% of the front surface area, which is very impressive.

Frame

At the bottom of the smartphone you will find a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the other side there is a speaker and microphone; in the middle there is a microUSB connector for charging and data transfer via cable. For now, this particular connector continues to be the most common, so there should be no problems with compatibility with accessories.

On the right edge of the case there is a volume control and a power button and activation of the smartphone. They are very thin, but rise above the surface enough to be felt with your finger. There are small air bags at the corners of the case to absorb shock. They cannot be seen, but they can protect the smartphone in case of falls.

On the left edge there is a tiny hole for the SIM card compartment and microSD card. You can install two nano SIM cards.

At the top you will find an 8MP front camera and a speaker. You can also see the seams where the screen is attached to the aluminum body.

Performance of Huawei Honor 7X

The Honor 7X is clearly not designed for gaming, although it does everything else perfectly. No matter how good the device looks, the filling must be appropriate, and here there are problems with this. Huawei Honor 7X characteristics are based on an 8-core processor of its own production - Kirin 659, which is comparable in performance to Snapdragon 625. Thanks to the 16-NM process technology, it spares battery power and practically does not heat up. It has a clock speed of up to 2.36 GHz. The graphics accelerator is the Mali T830 MP2, which is significantly inferior to the Adreno 506.

Huawei Honor 7X synthetic test results

As the Huawei Honor 7X 5.93 review showed, there will definitely be no performance problems in everyday use, but it won’t be able to handle games at maximum graphics. In heavy games there are even slight stutters. In Tanks, the game will be comfortable only on medium and low graphics; at maximum, fps drops significantly. The good thing is that there is no heating - even after a long game the case remains barely warm.

The review of the Huawei Honor 7X smartphone showed that in addition to other characteristics, it comes with 4 GB of RAM, which ensures the ability to work simultaneously with several applications without slowdowns and repeated downloads. The amount of internal memory depends on the modification - 32, 64 or 128 GB.

Performance

Interface, animation - everything works great. Nothing glitches, lags or slows down. Yes, it feels like you’re not using a jet flagship, but you can’t call a smartphone slow-witted either. That's it.

The same fingerprint scanner responds to touch instantly. You put your finger on the sensor while you take the device out of your pocket, bring it to your eyes, and everything is ready to go. The system does not need a few more milliseconds to “wake up”. And it’s these little things in the operation of the device that captivate you.

4K video opens instantly and there is not even a hint of slowdown.

Since we only have a Mali-T830 for graphics, we shouldn’t count on high parameters in “Tanks”: 20 FPS on average with drops of up to 9-10 frames. This is no good. We rearrange the graphics to medium settings and get about the same thing. Drawdowns are now no lower than 20 FPS, but the game is still not very comfortable.

In general, Honor 7X is a smartphone for everything except games and complex 3D graphics.

Huawei Honor 7X interface

While reviewing the Huawei Honor 7 X, we made sure that it runs on the proprietary EMUI 5.1 shell. The Russian language is available out of the box, and all interface elements are well translated. It is convenient to use, there are many available gestures and the ability to flexibly configure each element. Google services and applications from the manufacturer are preinstalled. But there is also some Chinese software that you immediately want to remove. To avoid this, buy the global version. The shell is one of the best. You will find in it many truly necessary functions that the original Android lacks.

Software

On top of Android 7.0, the proprietary EMUI 5.1 shell was installed here. This is the latest development from Huawei with all the bells and whistles.

Some people may not really like EMUI due to the design of icons, fonts and other nuances (me, for example), but it is stupid to deny its functionality. This is one of the most customizable skins on the market. And it provides very cool tools for fine-tuning your smartphone. On other devices, such tricks are impossible without Root and third-party, often crooked software.

For example, on Honor 7X you can easily find an application that consumes battery power and give it a hand. Or throw out unnecessary applications from startup.

All these seem like boring subtleties, but when problems happen (especially after installing some crooked application), you immediately start looking for a third-party solution in a panic. The Play Store can offer nothing but a ton of garbage apps with advertising. And here everything is right out of the box - it’s convenient and works like a clock.

During the week of using the 7X, I did not notice a single glitch, application crashes, etc. And this despite the fact that the smartphone is a real novelty, it was presented in mid-October of this year.

However, there were still a couple of nuances. Most likely, they can be attributed to the Chinese origin of the device.

At first, the smartphone did not want to send me notifications at all. I went into the application settings, set priorities for the programs that were key to me and... nothing changed. Well, practically. 2 out of 5 notifications now still arrive, the rest are lost.

The second point is contacts. When I added a GMAIL account, all my contacts were pulled up, but when there was an incoming call, the system did not recognize the name of the caller.

It turned out that the disease was very easy to treat. We go to the Web version of your Gmail contacts, export to a vCard file, copy it to the phone, and in the Contacts settings on the mobile device, select import from the vCard file in the device’s memory. Now all numbers are easily recognized.

Autonomy of Huawei Honor 7X

Although the Huawei Honor 7 X received a more capacious 3340 mAh battery, you shouldn’t expect miracles from it. The manufacturer tried to maintain a balance so that the smartphone could confidently survive until the evening charge, but at the same time its body remained moderately thin, which a powerful battery would not have allowed to achieve. An energy efficient processor also plays a role in this. With active use, Honor 7X discharges after 5 hours of display activity.

The proprietary EMUI shell is well optimized and contains an effective power saving function, thanks to which you can further improve the results. It unloads applications from memory that you have not used for a long time. As a result, autonomy can be increased to two days.

As the Huawei Honor 7X review showed, in video playback mode, about 10% of the charge is consumed per hour, and in games, the sadder picture is up to 30% per hour. The results are average, taking into account the not very productive hardware and large display. Unfortunately, the smartphone was left without fast charging technology, which is why you have to wait 2.5 hours from 0 to 100%.

Autonomy

The capacity of the built-in battery is 3340 mAh, so you shouldn’t count on too long an operating time.

My normal usage was 1 day and 17 hours, with an active screen time of 5 hours 20 minutes, although during this time I did not play games, but only talked on the phone, used social networks and briefly watched videos.

In the PCMark Work 2.0 battery life test at a brightness of 200 cd/m², the operating time was 6 hours 31 minutes.

Cameras Huawei Honor 7X

Huawei Honor 7X camera review reveals noticeable improvements over its predecessor. The only thing that is a little alarming is that the manufacturer does not disclose information regarding the manufacturer of the sensors and their characteristics. In tribute to trends, the main module is dual - 16 and 2 megapixels. The second sensor is monochrome and is used primarily to create the Bokeh effect. The main one did not have the best aperture - f/2.2, which is why the quality of the images noticeably drops as lighting conditions worsen.

For its price, the camera is decent; during the day, it takes stunning pictures with good detail and contrast. But the color rendition is far from the reference - the picture turns out pale. For advanced users, Huawei Honor 7X has a manual shooting mode. Although modern phones rarely have problems with this. But night photography is a completely different matter, as this is where all the camera’s flaws appear.

In low light, the quality of the images noticeably drops. But if you perform serial shooting, then at least 1-2 frames will be successful. What helps is the flash, which is moderately bright, but does not overexpose nearby objects.

The Huawei Honor 7X smartphone review showed that the camera does an excellent job of blurring the background. It's not as beautiful when compared to more expensive flagships, but for the price it's just perfect. The user can adjust the intensity of the blur. A big plus is that the Bokeh effect can be added to a ready-made photo in the gallery.

Video shooting is carried out at 30 frames per second and in FullHD resolution. If you don’t shake the smartphone too much, the quality is decent.

The 8 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture takes good pictures and will definitely appeal to those who cannot live without Instagram and bright selfies. The interesting thing is that even the front camera can shoot frames with a background blur effect. Even though software algorithms are used for this, it turns out well. Huawei Honor 7X 64gb review showed that, for a budget device, the cameras are very good.

Conclusion

To summarize, we can say with confidence that Honor 7X has become a worthy representative of the budget segment. It has a bright and recognizable design, high build quality, high-quality cameras and an intuitive interface. The screen doesn’t disappoint either; its unusual side resolution and large diagonal make it an ideal content player. Autonomy is certainly not record-breaking, but at a quite decent level. A strange decision was the manufacturer’s use of an outdated microUSB port, which again means there is no fast charging. Other dubious points include a lack of performance for demanding games, the lack of an NFC chip, and not support for all domestic LTE frequencies.

Camera

According to the brochures, the Honor 7X's dual camera will make you feel like a real photographer thanks to its portrait mode. This functionality is implemented using a combination of a 16 megapixel color matrix and a 2 MP black and white sensor.

Portrait mode doesn't work perfectly, but it's quite possible to get nice photos with it. In general, the implementation is not much worse than that of competitors.

What's more interesting is how the camera behaves in everyday use. During the day, the pictures turn out to be sharp and quite detailed, but in a series of frames taken literally one after another, the exposure noticeably “walks.” Some photos turn out lighter, others darker. The quality of night photography, alas, does not stand up to criticism: low clarity, artifacts and insufficient aperture of the optics. However, you don’t often come across something better in this price segment.

The advantages of the photographic part of the smartphone include support for the latest version of the camera API and an extremely functional viewfinder program. It implements: HDR, panoramas, a special mode for creating light graffiti, slow and accelerated shooting, color filters, and even more additional modes downloaded through a separate menu.

The front camera has an 8MP sensor and takes quite typical selfies. We only note the built-in function of applying face masks in real time and the screen flash.

Filming

You can also change the focal point. In the image shown, the background has been selected as the focal point, causing the foreground to be blurred. You can see some blurry edges in the image. Despite this, it's nice to have the ability to change focus again, after having had it in Nokia smartphones since Windows Phone.

If you swipe the viewfinder to the right, you get various other effects and shooting modes. There is a professional mode with manual image settings. There are also panorama, Timelapse, slow motion, Light Painting and several filters modes. Swiping to the left gives you access to camera settings such as resolution, grid, mute shutter sound, tap-to-photo, subject tracking, and more.

In the presented gallery you can see examples of photographs with maximum resolution on the rear camera. You can immediately see where there is blur and where there is not. Edges are blurred even around simple rectangular shapes. In one image, wires and trees are blurred. In another example, you can see that the subject and background are quite far away and are at approximately the same focal distance from each other. The background is blurred more than is physically possible with lenses.

The front camera can compete with more expensive smartphones. Of course, the shooting quality is lower compared to the rear camera and there are noise reduction effects, but it will do for social networks. There is also an artificial blur effect here.

In general, the camera can be called good, not counting the instability of the software. There are freezes, application crashes, and slow program loading. Perhaps the reason for this is extensive functionality or insufficient optimization. Open Camera seems to be a more reliable option, and it also supports shooting in RAW DNG formats, but without blur or other filters. On the other hand, there is a problem with saving digital information correctly into RAW DNG files, since red becomes purple and yellow becomes cyan.

Autonomous operation

The battery life of the Honor 7X can be called excellent. You can easily last more than one day under normal load with all notifications turned on. The Kirin 659 processor on the 16 nm process technology turns out to be very efficient, so the 3340 mAh battery lasts for a long time. EMUI 5.1 enhances battery life with power management modes.

The battery control panel in Settings allows you to clear apps on the lock screen, optimize a program's power consumption, change the screen resolution to a lower one, limit background app activity, and enable an extreme power-saving mode where only six programs will run. If you leave this mode for the whole day, by evening the charge level will be above 90%. At the same time, you can work with email, calendar, maps and a little in the browser. When writing the review, the smartphone worked without recharging for more than a week.
