How to delete Mi account from Xiaomi phone even if you forgot the password

What is deleting a Mi account?

Deleting a Mi account means deactivating your Mi account and destroying all synchronized data from the cloud. After this, it will be impossible to restore it: no one will have access to confidential data.

The procedure is relevant if the Xiaomi smartphone is being prepared for sale or you do not plan to use Xiaomi equipment in the future.

It is worth noting that the account linked to the phone is not deleted immediately. Over the course of several days, the company makes a decision. Within 30 days from the date of deletion, everything can be restored without loss .

Attention! After completely deleting Xiaomi's Mi account, you will not be able to access it if you suddenly change your mind. Therefore, you need to think carefully before performing the procedure.

Removal via phone settings

The easiest way is to delete your account from your Xiaomi phone. The account will be erased, all synchronized data in Mi Cloud will also be deleted.

This method cannot be called a complete deletion of Mi Account, because the account will remain on the Xiaomi servers, although it will be completely empty without your data.

How to delete Mi account on Xiaomi Redmi 8 (we took this phone model as an example):

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Find the “Mi account” section.
  3. Tap on the “Log out of account” item.
  4. On the next screen, click the "Delete" button.
  5. Enter the password for your existing account and tap OK.

After a few seconds, there will be no trace of the account left on the phone. Data that was synchronized with Mi Cloud will be erased from the cloud.

Password reset

Most methods of unlinking and bypassing an account on Xiaomi Redmi 4x, and on any other devices, require entering the account password. If it is not there, you will need to reset your password.

You can reset your Xiaomi account password from a browser on your computer. For this:

  1. Go to the link https://account.xiaomi.com/pass/forgetPassword.
  2. In the appropriate field of the form that opens, you need to enter the phone number to which the account is linked.
  3. The next step is to confirm your consent to send the letter by email.
  4. The sent email must contain a security code, which is entered in the following form.
  5. If everything is done correctly, you will be asked to enter a new password, which you can use to gain access to your account from your phone.

To reset your password, you can use the form on the smartphone manufacturer’s website

Important! In some cases, an email with a security code ends up in the spam folder - you need to check that too.

Uninstall using Mi Cloud

If you don’t have access to your smartphone, you can erase your account using the Xiaomi Cloud, with which the data is synchronized. To do this you will need a computer or laptop and some modern browser.

  1. Open your browser and go to the official website i.mi.com.
  2. Click on the “Log in with Mi account” button.

  3. At the next stage, enter your username and password, and then click “Login”.

  4. Click the Find Device section.

  5. Select your smartphone from the list.

  6. In the right block, click on the button with three dots and select “Disable Find device.”

  7. Confirm the action with the OK button.

  8. Enter your password and click OK.

Ready. The selected device is now unlinked from the current account. But at the same time, she herself has not gone away.

If the smartphone is being prepared for sale, then such actions will be quite enough.

Features of an MI account and how to remove it from a Xiaomi gadget

As you know, “Mi Account” is a service from Xiaomi that allows you to increase the overall level of privacy and security when working with the company’s devices. The Chinese manufacturer pays increased attention to the security of its products, which, in particular, results in a closed bootloader for Xiaomi phones. The “Mi account” created by Xiaomi is another means of security; after registration, it is linked to the phone and forms a single whole with it. It will be impossible to use such products as “Mi Cloud”, “Phone Finder”, “Data Sync”, “Shopping on Mi.com”, “Mi Flash Sales”, “MIUI Forum” and other analogues without an MI account.

For a number of different reasons, we may need to get rid of the Mi account on the Xiaomi phone. Let's figure out how this can be done.

Complete removal on the official website i.mi.com.

The previous methods will still be needed, since before completely destroying the account and all data, you will need to unlink the phone from it. Now we will talk about complete removal.

  1. Open your browser and go to the official website i.mi.com.
  2. A window will appear warning you about the consequences of destroying your account. Check the box “Yes, I want to permanently delete my Mi account” and click “Delete Mi account”.

  3. To check, the system will offer to send an action confirmation code via SMS to the linked number. Click "Submit".

  4. Enter the received code in the required field and click “Submit”.

After a few seconds, the account will be completely deactivated and destroyed. Along with all files from Mi Cloud.

Within 30 days , the account can be restored if you suddenly change your mind.

Access to your account has been lost or is missing!

There are no official methods for self-unlocking here. Options such as system reset or flashing do not have a positive effect in 90% of cases, so there is no point in disassembling them.

If it is not possible to remember the password, there are two options left.

Support

As in the case of recovering the Mi account password, if you encounter difficulties in gaining access to your smartphone, you need to request a reset from the support service.

Unfortunately, Russian-language customer service is not yet available. Therefore, applications should be directed to foreign specialists. You can choose one of the email addresses listed on the official website https://mi.com.

In the letter, describe the problem in detail. Be prepared to be asked to provide a receipt for the purchase of a Xiaomi phone, a photo of the original box, the date of account activation, or other information that will help identify the owner of the device.

The answer, depending on the workload of technical support workers, may only arrive after a few days.

Reset to factory settings

A factory reset will help you delete your Mi account without a password. The method is not always effective, but it will help if the user has forgotten the password for their Xiaomi account.

It is worth noting that this method has been proven to work only on older smartphones with MIUI 7 or 8. However, sometimes it works on new phones (for example, Redmi 8 with MIUI 12 on board).

  1. Go to your phone settings through the corresponding icon.
  2. Go to the "About Phone" section.
  3. Tap on the “Reset settings” item.
  4. Click on the “Erase all data” button at the very bottom of the screen.
  5. Confirm the action by entering a pattern or password.

After the reset, the Xiaomi account will be deleted from the phone, but will not be destroyed. This option is suitable for subsequent resale of the device. This operation is similar to unlinking a phone from an account.

Removing a forgotten MI Account password

This method is unofficial; you will be able to remove your forgotten password, but you will lose your data on your phone.

You will need a PC and ADB Driver installed:

  1. Go to Recovery mode as described above, and select “Wipe data”;
  2. Reboot your device;
  3. After turning on and booting the phone, select your country and language, “Gboard” as a keyboard, then connect to your Wi-Fi, but do not click on “Next”, but select “Back”;
  4. We need to enable the “USB Debugging” function. In the “Choose keyboard” menu, click on “Privacy Policy”, underlined with a link;

  6. Click on the search bar, look for “Settings” there, and select “Settings App”;

  12. At the command prompt, type pm uninstall -k –user 0 com.xiaomi.finddevice;
  13. Now click on “Next” three times;
  14. When you need to log in to your MI account, just click on Skip.

Installing custom firmware

Installing custom firmware is a good way to delete your Mi account if you forgot your password. It works like a Xiaomi unlink, but without interfering with the account itself. The process is divided into several stages.

The first includes unlocking the bootloader (without this there is no way) and installing a custom TWRP recovery. Without it, it is not possible to upload non-standard firmware to the device.

After this, you need to download the appropriate firmware in ZIP format. The last step is installing the firmware.

We talked about how to do all this in the article about TWRP.

How to delete when you forgot your password

If you forgot your password, you don’t have access to your device profile, and you can’t recover your password, you can try doing a full data reset using the Recovery option. In this case, all information will be deleted from the phone. However, there is no guarantee that it will not ask for your password again.

To enter Recovery mode, you need to turn off your smartphone. Then simultaneously press and hold the power and volume up buttons until the Mi logo appears on the screen. After this, you will need to select English, since Russian is not provided in Recovery.

Select the section “Wipe and Reset” – “Wipe User Data”. To confirm the actions, press the power button again and wait for the phone to reboot.

Important! Be sure to back up your data, otherwise it will be irretrievably lost. To do this, go to the “Security” section in the device itself and click on the “Backup” button. In the screen that appears, you need to mark the files and applications that you want to save. Having made a choice, click “Transfer backup data” and wait for the action to be completed.

You can delete your account by resetting your settings. To do this, you need to remove the SIM card and memory card from the phone and perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the device settings and open the “Advanced settings” section.
  2. Select “Backup and reset” – “Reset settings”.
  3. Click on the “Personal Data” section and confirm your actions.

Alternative Methods

There are alternative ways to delete an account from a Xiaomi phone. They do not always work and are not suitable for all phone models, but they are worth mentioning.

Classic Hard Reset

We are talking about resetting to factory settings using standard recovery:

  1. To do this, you need to hold down the power and volume up buttons while turning on the smartphone.
  2. In recovery, select Wipe Data and then Wipe All Data.
  3. During the reset, the phone will reboot into the OS.
  4. The first start takes about 5–10 minutes.
  5. After the restart, you will need to reconfigure all the smartphone parameters.

Installing stock firmware

In some cases, flashing the device with the standard version of the OS helps. To do this, you will need the firmware file itself, Fastboot mode, as well as the MiFlash Pro program (sometimes the utility is called a program for deleting a Mi account, although this is only one of its capabilities).

An unlocked bootloader is not required for this. Step-by-step instructions can be seen in the article about the stock Recovery firmware, it is very simple.

Please note that the method does not always work, although it still works on older devices like Xiaomi Redmi 4x.

Using the programmer

A programmer is a special device that connects to a phone and computer. With its help, you can not only reflash a dead phone, but also completely destroy various MIUI services (including the service responsible for Mi Account).

This device is extremely difficult to use. In addition, you need to be able to choose the type of programmer. It’s better not to do this on your own.

Unlinking a Mi account if there is no access to it

Here the process is more complicated and inconvenient. If there is no chance of restoring access, you will have to resort to extreme measures: resetting the device or flashing the firmware.

You can also try contacting Xiaomi support, describing your problem in detail. At the same time, the chance that they will answer you quickly and efficiently is small. To confirm that you are the owner of the smartphone, you will have to provide a number of proofs:

  • device serial number;
  • date, place of purchase, receipt;
  • packaging photos, etc.

Reset

After resetting the settings, the phone, when connecting to the network for the first time (that is, during the initial setup), will require you to enter the password for the Mi account associated with this device.

  1. Before starting the operation, you need to save important data to the internal memory or memory card. It is best to use selective backups. Then transfer the backup files to an SD card or computer.
  2. Now go to TWRP, if it is not already installed you need to unlock the bootloader and install custom recovery.
  3. Turn off the phone, wait a minute for all processes to stop.
  4. We go into Recovery by holding down the volume up button and the power button , hold until it vibrates.
  5. Select the item “ Wipe Data ” (cleaning/deleting). We confirm the action and wait for the wipe to end.

Flashing

Of course, not every user will decide to flash the firmware because of their Mi account, but if you are considering this option, then it is best to use the special MiFlash utility (you need an unlocked bootloader).

But even this does not guarantee that the account will be unlinked 100 percent. Unbinding definitely happened on earlier versions of MIUI, mainly on the seventh. But the algorithm: installing the old version - flashing - unbinding will not appeal to everyone.
