Billed as an entry-level device, the HUAWEI Y5 (2019) looks anything but. Thanks to the faux leather finish on the case, the smartphone looks like a premium device. The body of this smartphone has rounded corners that provide a comfortable fit in your hand.
Wide bezels surround the display of this smartphone, although this is expected from most smartphones in the budget range. The bottom frame is the widest and has the Huawei logo on it. The upper front frame is thinner in comparison and the front camera is located there, in a drop-shaped cutout. A slot for two SIM cards and a separate slot for a micro SD card are located on the left side of the device. Dedicated memory card slots have always been a plus, as you don't have to sacrifice a SIM card slot to expand memory storage.

On the opposite side, there is a volume button and a power button. These two buttons are conveniently located and easy to press. On the top panel there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and on the bottom there is a microphone, speaker and micro USB port. It would be nice if Huawei equipped this smartphone with a USB-C port. However, since this is a budget phone, it's not surprising to see a micro USB port here.

Appearance and ergonomics
The Huawei U5 (2020) body is made of lightweight polycarbonate. Moreover, the back part is of particular interest, “masquerading” as a leather surface, which is stitched with threads. This solution looks quite original and stylish. The back side is equipped with a vertical block with an LED flash and the main camera. At the same time, in the lower left corner you can see the brand logo.
On the front there is a FullView display with a drop-shaped cutout, which is provided for the front camera. A little higher is the speaker grille. The frames around the screen are medium in size. Below there is an indentation with the manufacturer's logo. Taking into account modern trends, all navigation buttons are virtual.
The device is very convenient to use. It is quite compact and lightweight, so it is suitable for people of any age and gender. Available colors: Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, Amber and Modern Black. Dimensions: height - 147.1 mm, width - 70.8 mm, thickness - 8.5 mm, weight - 146 g.

Photos taken indoors with sufficient lighting have average quality and minimal noise. Since the HUAWEI Y5 (2019) does not have a dedicated night mode, low-light photos come out cloudy and noisy with burnt-out lights.

As for video, this smartphone can shoot video with a resolution of up to 1080p video in 3GP format. The colors look pretty good and have decent detail. Video recording mode doesn't offer stabilization, so be prepared to expect some shake from time to time when shooting video on the Y5 (2019).

The Y5 (2020) has a 5.71-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 19:9. This elongated shape allows you to contain more useful information and also makes the design more convenient. The IPS matrix has a resolution of 1520 by 720 pixels with a pixel density of 295 ppi. There are no particular problems with either the detail of the picture or the color scheme.

The image remains readable even outdoors, although in sunny weather the screen begins to fade. There is also a protective glass that protects the matrix from damage. The display itself occupies almost 85% of the front panel area. The colors are moderately rich and rich. There are not so many available settings, but they still exist.
Hardware and performance
Inside the U5 (2020) there is a quad-core Helio A22 chip from MediaTek. This processor is made using a 12nm process technology and also includes Cortex-A53 cores. Its maximum clock speed is 2000 MHz. There is a PowerVR GE8320 graphics accelerator here. The device received 2 GB of RAM and 16 or 32 GB of built-in storage.
In the most popular synthetic test AnTuTu, the device scores about 57,000 points. This result is typical for representatives of the budget class. The smartphone copes well with simple tasks such as watching videos and photos, opening built-in services, or a browser with a small number of tabs.

HUAWEI Y5 (2019) is powered by a MediaTek Helio A22 processor and PowerVR GPU, coupled with 2GB of RAM. We were unable to test this smartphone through AnTuTu tests as it kept freezing during the test. Despite this, we were able to collect results from other applications for comparison.
We were able to complete basic tasks using the HUAWEI Y5 (2019). Multitasking is possible on this smartphone, but remember that 2 GB of RAM can only work successfully when massive applications work together with lighter ones. We tested graphics-intensive games like Asphalt 9 and PUBG and they were only playable on low settings.

Sound
The Huawei U5 (2020) has a multimedia speaker with a high volume level. It allows you to hear the call even from another room, or in a noisy environment. There is a built-in FM radio that is activated when a headset is connected. The sound in the headphones is quite high quality. You need to highlight the “Party” mode, when several phones are combined to play your favorite music tracks loudly and volumetrically. The earpiece performs well, as the interlocutors can almost always be heard clearly.
Communication and sound
The multimedia speaker in the Huawei Y5 II is relatively loud, but without even hints of surround sound. Things are more interesting with the sound in headphones, but even here the quality is far from perfect. And you can talk without any problems, since the voices of the user and the interlocutor are heard well. As already noted, there is a version with support for 4G and slower networks. The U5 II model with 3G cannot work with high-speed LTE networks. And the wireless interfaces include Bluetooth 4.0, as well as Wi-Fi (2400 MHz).
