Characteristics
The Zenfone 5 and Honor 10 mobile devices have several main differences in characteristics:
- Zenfone 5 is larger in size than Honor 10, and not only is the display diagonal larger, but also the body itself. It is worth noting that the weight at this size is almost equal to the weight of the Honor 10.
- An important difference is the ability to add memory through the use of an external memory card in Zenfone 5. In this case, memory card support is possible up to 2 TB. For this reason, the developers released the phone in only one modification. Honor 10 does not have the ability to add a memory card; there is only internal memory - 64 or 128 GB at the user's choice.
- Honor 10 has much better camera capabilities.
These are the main differences that users pay attention to when they first get acquainted with the Zenfone 5 and Honor 10 mobile devices.
⇡#Macro
When shooting close-up, an unpleasant point arises - each smartphone has its own minimum focusing distance, so an absolutely correct comparison is impossible; you have to adapt to the one least adapted to macro photography - in this case, it is ASUS Zenfone 5. For the purity of the experiment, let's again take two scenes - night and daytime

"Zenfon" would already receive minus one point for the fact that it is inferior in focusing distance to its competitors, thereby limiting the user's capabilities when shooting close-up, but even in scenes adjusted for it, it still loses to both - and in terms of detail clarity , and in terms of color rendition.
It's a little more difficult to get a sharp picture on the Nokia 7 Plus than on the Honor 10 - you have to do more takes. But when it does work, there is no room for quibbles - neat sharpness, a little cold, but normal color rendition, excellent detail. The Huawei smartphone has a worse situation with details and sharpness - and the score is correspondingly lower.
- Nokia 7 Plus – 3 points;
- Honor 10 – 2 points;
- ASUS Zenfone 5 – 1 point.
Design
The front side of both phones is almost identical in appearance, so much attention will not be paid to it. The Honor 10 mobile device has several layers of high-quality nanoglass on the back panel, which provide unique and beautiful gradient iridescence.
The Asus smartphone has Gorilla Glass protection, which is not original, but it provides reliable protection from external influences on the device. However, the smartphone looks stylish and attractive. But it’s worth noting that Zenfone 5 retains fingerprints, while Honor’s oleophobic coating is better.
The dual camera in Honor is located horizontally, while in Zenfone 5 it is located vertically on the back cover of the device. Another difference is the location of the fingerprint scanner. So, for Honor 10 it is located on the front side under the screen (oval-shaped), and for Zenfone 5 it is round in shape and is located on the back cover of the smartphone.
Screen
Honor 10 has a built-in IPS matrix that works at the highest level. The screen in this mobile device shows itself perfectly; there is good color reproduction, bright and deep colors, as well as a high level of maximum brightness. Thus, it is convenient to use the phone even in bright sunlight. In addition, there are maximum viewing angles, which is very convenient for ordinary users.
If you compare Honor and Asus in terms of screen matrices, Zenfone 5 will be better. This is quite interesting, since the matrix in Zenfon is also IPS, but for some reason the manufacturer added “+Super” to the name. If you test the matrix, the result is amazing. The Asus IPS matrix is approaching the characteristics of AMOLED, and this is currently the ideal.
How the developers achieved this result is unknown, but with prolonged use of Zenfone 5, a high-quality level of screen performance is visible. Amazing color rendition, rich and vibrant colors, no distortion, and a large supply of brightness levels.

Today in our impromptu ring there are two popular smartphones that are actively selling at the beginning of 2021: Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 (always on the left in the photo) and Honor 8X (always on the right). Let me remind you of the rating system: 2 points – maximum, 1 point – average score and 0 – everything is bad. The official price tags for these devices are absolutely the same - 18,000 rubles for the younger 4/64 GB versions, and in this sense the devices are equal, so let’s immediately move on to evaluating the body materials.
CASE MATERIALS
These are two glossy beauties who love to live in covers. But firstly, Honor 8X has metal ends. Secondly, the back panel of the 8X is glass. In the case of Asus, we get a glossy plastic cover that flows into the same plastic ends, and in my case the plastic also bends. The wear resistance of the Max Pro M2 is frankly weak, and even a primitive case is simply not included in the kit, and this is a minus. The Honor 8X comes with a case.

DISPLAYS
The Asus Max pro M2 has a 6.3-inch screen, Honor 8X has a 6.5-inch screen. Both have FullHD+ resolution and IPS matrices. There are small bangs at the top, the rounded corners are very noticeable, the lower display frame is narrower in Honor 8X. Both screens show a contrasting and rich picture, large viewing angles, have a solid brightness reserve, but still the 8X screen has not much, but a slightly larger brightness reserve, and also on white you can notice differences in color rendition, but they are not critical and doesn't allow me to highlight one of these screens in a positive way. Here I confidently award 2 points to each display, they deserve it.

HARDWARE
Snapdragon 660 or Kirin 710? The question is rhetorical and not so clear-cut. If you play games on a smartphone, then the 660th “dragon” in this regard shows itself, although not much better, but still better. And also a lot depends on the game itself and its optimization. For example, if tanks (WOT BLITZ) are not very friendly with Kirin and Mali graphics, then PUBG Mobile, on the contrary, works great on Honor 8X, incl. due to GPU Turbo support. In terms of processor core performance, the Kirin 710 even surpasses the Snapdragon 660. The memory modifications for our market are exactly the same: 4/64 GB or 4/128 GB. Good hardware here and there, and if you are a mobile tanker, then look towards the Snapdragon 660, tanks run faster on it.

SOFTWARE PART
In the review of Asus Max Pro M2, I said that this brand, in its traditions, released a smartphone that was slightly damp in terms of software, but at the same time, I did not identify any fatal flaws. This is still the 8th pure classic Android and owners can safely wait for the update to Android 9 - this is official information.
Honor 8X has been on the market for quite a long time, it is also periodically updated, it has a completely different interface due to the presence of the proprietary Emotion UI shell. You decide for yourself which is better for you - pure Android or EMUI. But here I will not play with objectivity and tell you right away - I would choose EMUI, because... there is wider functionality, more features out of the box and various software features - for example, you can change the display resolution, there is full gesture control, etc. I will allow myself to evaluate this round subjectively.

SOUND
In headphones, smartphones sound equivalent. Both support the APTX codec. But in terms of multimedia dynamics, the clear favorite is the Asus Max Pro M2 - its speaker not only produces better sound, but also its volume reserve is noticeably higher, and this, you see, is also important for a smartphone.

OTHER FUNCTIONALITY
A comparison of functionality is presented in the screenshot below and here we see that the devices are generally equal, except that the Asus Max pro M2 does not support dual-band WiFi. The Honor 8X's additional WiFi range clearly doesn't count for a whole point. But on the other hand, for some this is a real advantage. In general, we'll give Asus half a point less; it's still a little strange to see the absence of two WiFi bands in a smartphone in this price category.

CAMERAS
ASUS received a 12 + 5 MP dual camera with a Sony IMX486 main sensor and f/1.8 optics. The sensor is of course far from top-end, one might even say budget. But for the opponent, this matter is much more complicated. Honor 8X offers a 20 + 2 MP camera, the aperture is also f/1.8, but this company traditionally does not advertise the type of sensor and it is clear why - the Honor 8X has the wildest randomness with cameras - it can come across as a sensor from Sony (IMX 350 or IMX371), as well as from OmniVision and there is even information about the availability of samples with sensors from Samsung. My sample uses the OmniVision 20880 sensor.
A full comparison of cameras is presented in the video version of this comparison (see below), but to summarize, in terms of photography, the cameras are equivalent, of average quality, and depending on the location they show varying success. But in terms of video shooting, the favorite for me is obvious - this is the Asus Max Pro M2 - it can shoot 4K, unlike its competitor, it has decent electronic stabilization, again unlike its competitor. In low light, Honor 8X produces very noisy video, raises ISO and definitely loses to its rival here.
The 13-megapixel front camera of Asus again shows better results than the 16-megapixel front camera of Honor 8X.

AUTONOMY
Here we have the undisputed leader and this is, of course, the Zenfone Max Pro M2, which with its 5000 mAh super battery shows excellent autonomy. Honor 8X is also not so bad in this regard, but its 3750 mAh battery is not able to compete with such a tenacious competitor. The results of the online video playback test in 1080p quality are shown in the screenshot below.
Both smartphones are equipped with 2-amp adapters; there is no fast charging. Asus fully charges in 2 hours 50 minutes, Honor 8X in 2 hours 05 minutes. And as a result, Max pro M2 gets the maximum 2 points, as a long-lasting smartphone, Honor demonstrates autonomy at a level slightly above average - 1 point in its piggy bank.

RESULTS OF THE BATTLE
The Honor 8X has 12 points. Asus Max Pro M2 scored 12.5 points.
But despite the fact that Asus won by a slight margin, I want to tell you that these points are very arbitrary. It all depends on your priorities, on your liking for this or that brand, for this or that shell. Believe me, a lot depends on this. For example, when I hold these smartphones in my hands, I understand perfectly well that ASUS is more autonomous, it has a loud speaker, and Snapdragon on board. But at the same time, it seems a bit boring to me. Honor 8X is perceived as more solid: the case materials have an impact here, and the EMUI shell itself, again, in my personal opinion, is more flexible and functional than pure Android. So the choice is a subjective thing. But overall, the smartphone from ASUS looks more balanced.
