Screen

The Honor 20e's screen is definitely better. This is a 6.21-inch diagonal LTPS panel with a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels. The liquid crystal matrix provides fairly rich and correct color reproduction. The brightness is enough for comfortable use of the smartphone indoors, but outdoors in direct sunlight the image becomes noticeably dim. The protective film is attached from the factory. The Honor 20e is quite enjoyable to watch videos and play games on. Considering the outrageously low cost of the smartphone, the display is simply excellent.

The P40 lite E's screen is approximately 2/10" larger and features a modern front camera cutout in the left corner. And in terms of screen resolution, this smartphone is significantly inferior. It's 720x1560 pixels. The minimum pixel density is 269 per inch. That is, small text and image details no longer look as clear as on the Honor 20e, which has a pixel density exceeding 400 per inch. High resolution is the first thing you have to sacrifice in budget smartphones. Let me remind you that the P40 lite E is much cheaper than its competitor from Honor.

By the way, an interesting observation. If you have polarized glasses, look through them at the screen of your Huawei smartphone in a horizontal position.

Design

If you look at the smartphones from the front, they are very similar. These are frameless with small teardrop-shaped cutouts on the top frame. They have front cameras, above which are earpiece speakers and proximity and light sensors.

It is easier to distinguish devices from the back. The Samsung cover is made of plastic, the frame is made of polycarbonate, the Huawei cover is made of glass, the frame is aluminum. But the camera blocks are very similar and both are located vertically, on the left side at the top of the body. LED flashes are installed immediately below them. Under the Huawei camera there is an inscription about the use of artificial intelligence in the camera, below is the logo. On Samsung it is located just below the flash, where Huawei has a fingerprint sensor.

Parameters of the P30 Light: 15.2 × 7.3 cm, case thickness 7.4 mm, weight 154 g. Galaxy is 6 mm taller, 2 mm wider, 3 mm thicker. At the same time, it is only 5 g heavier.

Width7.3 cm7.5 cm
Thickness7.4 mm7.7 mm

Due to the difference in size, the weight of the Samsung Galaxy A50 vs Huawei devices differs slightly (by 7 g). The colors of Samsung can only be black, Huawei – blue, white and black. On the right side there are mechanical power and volume buttons, on the left there are slots with SIM cards. At the bottom there are speaker outputs (single), microphones and connectors for connecting a charger or data cable.

Software

Another downside of the P40 lite E is the software. Firstly, the smartphone runs on Android 9, while the transition to version 11 recently began. Secondly, all Google services have been removed from the operating system. Although in a certain sense this is not bad, because usually Google mobile services constantly hang in the background and occupy part of the smartphone’s hardware resources around the clock. Without them, the interface of the cheap P40 lite E flies like a rocket. The absence of the Google Play application store is successfully compensated by the alternative AppGallery catalog from Huawei, which is actively being filled. There are very few principled developers who refused to copy their applications there. We can’t count on system updates, but Android 9 is still relevant, and the proprietary EMUI interface offers a lot of useful settings so that we don’t experience discomfort when using the smartphone.

Honor 20e also runs on Android 9, however, oddly enough, Google services are present here. All standard Google applications are pre-installed from the factory: YouTube, Maps, Drive cloud storage, etc. In parallel with Google Play, alternative Huawei tools for downloading applications (AppGallery, Petal search engine) are also installed. The EMUI interface supports gesture control, a “one-handed” mode, and includes a special “Optimizer”, with which you can clear memory of file garbage, block calls from unwanted numbers, scan your smartphone for viruses, etc.

Cameras

The cameras of Huawei P40 lite E and Honor 20e differ only in the resolution of the main module. Huawei did not skimp and gave P40 lite E users the opportunity to take clear 48-megapixel photos. However, it is inconvenient that this option is hidden in the camera application settings, and not displayed in a separate mode, since the default resolution is always set to 12 megapixels. The ultra-wide-angle camera shoots with a resolution of 8 megapixels. Of the useless modules, there is only a 2 MP portrait camera. The front camera is 8 megapixels, but the quality of the frames will be slightly spoiled by the lack of automatic focusing. But don't take this as criticism. For its price, the P40 lite E has excellent cameras.

Honor 20e uses exactly the same secondary cameras and front camera. As I already said, the resolution of the main camera has been reduced to 24 megapixels. But it supports super slow-motion video shooting up to 480 frames per second, HDR mode, 6x digital zoom, intelligent scene recognition and much more. For social networks, the smartphone takes pictures in acceptable quality.

Performance

In terms of performance, Huawei P40 lite E and Honor 20e do not compete with each other at all. The volume of their built-in storage is 64 GB, of which a little more than 50 GB is available to users. Moreover, you can insert a microSD memory card up to 512 GB into both smartphones.

Many everyday tasks are performed very quickly and smoothly thanks to the mid-range Kirin 710F chipset. This is Huawei's own development. A processor with a clock frequency of up to 2.2 GHz is paired with 4 GB of RAM. When using various applications and the browser, there is not the slightest slowdown. But the Honor smartphone is slightly inferior in performance. I don’t know what this is connected with, I blame Google services, because... The chipset and interface are the same for our clones. There are basically no problems with multitasking either, although the Huawei smartphone likes to close background applications to save battery.

The best gameplay is provided by medium graphics settings. This way you can run any game and not suffer from FPS drops.

Processors ‒ HiSilicon Kirin vs Exynos

Both manufacturers produce their own chipsets - central processors. Companies have flagship, mid-range and budget lines. Huawei and Samsung take advantage of ARM's developments by installing high-performance and energy-efficient cores in their Cortex-A73 and Cortex-A53 processors, respectively. They also purchase video cores for Mali chips from ARM. Samsung has been building its M3 performance units lately, which is a plus.

This makes it clear that the performance of the processors will be approximately equal. HiSilicon and Exynos include lines with a 10nm process technology - these are flagship chips with the latest innovative solutions in the field of machine learning.

You can choose the winner by comparing the latest processors from both companies. Huawei's TOP flagship chip is used in the Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 10 Pro smartphones - this is the HiSilicon Kirin 970. For Samsung, it is the Exynos 9810 (Galaxy S9). Let's write down the gadget parameters in a table.

The characteristics of the top flagship processors are similar. Huawei Mate 10 Pro with Kirin 970 processor scores 213,133 points in the Antutu benchmark. But the Galaxy S9 with Exynos 9810 received a record 254,375 points, which makes it the most powerful mobile processor by mid-2021. The South Koreans even managed to bypass the TOP Apple A11 Bionic processor, which until recently was considered the most productive and scored 226 thousand points.

We will not now consider previous processors of brands - the situation there is similar. Of course, Samsung has more advanced technologies - hardware and software - and this allows them to create more powerful chips.

Net

Of course, Huawei and Honor smartphones have all the necessary network functions: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, LTE, 3G. However, only Honor 20e has an NFC module for contactless payments. The P40 lite E does not provide such a useful option. We need to somehow motivate people to buy expensive smartphones.

Equipment

The Samsung Galaxy A5 2021 package includes the smartphone itself, a data adapter, headphones, charger, USB Type-C cable, and documentation. All this is neatly folded into a beautiful, stylish white box made of thick cardboard.

Honor 8 comes with a tool for removing SIM cards, a warranty card, a quick user guide, a USB cable, and a charger.

In general, the equipment of our heroes is standard. If we compare Samsung Galaxy A5 2021 and Huawei Honor 8, then there is nothing special in the contents of their boxes.

Battery

But the P40 lite E has a significantly larger battery capacity - 4000 mAh versus 3400 for the Honor 20e. With a moderate load, the charge can last for two days, but if you play a lot or watch videos online, the battery life is reduced to 8-10 hours. Not too bad actually. The trouble is that the smartphone recharges very slowly. The power of the included power supply is only 10 W, and the outdated micro-USB connector is unlikely to allow you to connect fast charging.

Honor 20e survives at the end of the day with about 20 percent charge. This is if you use all the functions of your smartphone without restrictions. The connector and adapter are the same as those of Huawei. Thanks to the smaller battery capacity, the recharge time of Honor 20e is within 1.5 hours.

Autonomy

Samsung is powered by a 4000 mAh battery. This is enough for 24.5 hours of talk time, 12 hours. 16 min. work on the Internet, 15 hours. 50 min video viewing. The Huawei battery has a slightly smaller capacity, 3340 mAh. But on a full charge you can talk for almost 29 hours, work online for 14 hours. 45 min., watch video 13.5 hours.

Reviews

And finally, reviews from ordinary users. Let's see what they say this time.

Negative

HONOR 20e

  1. Old micro-USB port, no notification indicator, mobile Internet does not work well.
  2. The cameras are very mediocre, the front camera is ok.
  3. The battery capacity is small and the charge runs out quickly.

HUAWEI P40 lite E

  1. There is no Google Play catalog, Google maps and Gmail. Stupid phone. The biggest problem is that many applications refuse to work without Google Play services.
  2. Fast charging is not supported.
  3. micro-USB, low screen resolution, old Android 9 without dark theme.

Positive

HONOR 20e

  1. Compact, comfortable to hold, with a good display and good performance.
  2. The processor, although not new, copes with everyday tasks confidently. And you can play on a computer.
  3. For its price the phone is very good. Especially if you buy at a discount.
  4. I liked the look and the price. Everything suits me.

HUAWEI P40 lite E

  1. The 4000 mAh battery lasts for the whole day easily. If you save money, then it will be enough for 3 days. Charges from 30 to 100% in 2 hours.
  2. GMS are easy to install. There are step-by-step instructions on YouTube. It worked for me and everything is great.
  3. You can install a memory card and two SIM cards. Loud speaker with clear sound.
  4. And I already have it with Android 10. That's lucky.

When buying Honor 20e or Huawei P40 lite E, you will have to come to terms with some compromises - slow charging with an outdated connector, an LCD screen, an operating system without updates, and in the case of Huawei you also need to be prepared to sacrifice a high screen resolution and an NFC module. But both smartphones are equipped with very powerful chipsets from the mid-budget category, have a lot of built-in memory with expandability, and Huawei offers a larger battery, a 48 megapixel camera and a very stylish design as compensation.

Bye everyone!

Competitors of Samsung Galaxy A52

Redmi Note 10 Pro

The direct competitor to the A52 from Xiaomi is the Redmi Note 10 Pro. In Russia it costs even a little more, the starting price tag was 28,990 rubles. But who actually buys Xiaomi at retail without discounts? You can already buy a new product on Ali for a little more than 20 kes, if you don’t mind a couple of weeks of waiting.

Advantages of Redmi Note 10 Pro:

  • Smoother 120Hz SuperAMOLED display. Redmi has a larger one: 6.67 versus 6.5 inches - better suited for gaming and watching videos. In terms of image quality, both screens are excellent, but Samsung has a noticeably higher PWM level, which can cause discomfort for sensitive users
  • The gaming performance of the smartphones is comparable: Snapdragon 720 and 732 are similar processors with almost identical AnTuTu scores. But due to 120 Hz, the Note 10 Pro works faster in the interface.
  • Redmi has a slightly better battery - 5020 mAh versus 4500 mAh, which is offset by the larger Hertz screen. But the Note 10 charges much faster; a 33 W power supply is included in the package, not 15 W.
  • Side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power key. In terms of convenience, this is a matter of habit, but it works noticeably faster than the under-screen scanner in the A52.
  • The device has a separate slot for MicroSD, which allows you not to overpay and take the minimum memory configuration, which will already have 6 GB of RAM.
  • There is a proprietary feature of all Xiaomi - an infrared port, which makes it possible to control household appliances from the phone, like from a remote control.

In the comparison of Redmi Note 10 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A52, the Korean is supported by the presence of full IP67 moisture protection (the laptop only has splash protection), and an adequately implemented Always On Display mode - it is always active, and not for the first 10 seconds after tapping on the screen, as it did Xiaomi. Also, despite the lower resolution, the camera here is cooler. During the day, there is parity in terms of photo capabilities, but in low light the A52 takes better photographs thanks to the presence of optical stabilization.

Take into account the difference in case materials. The A52 is made of matte plastic, while the Note 10 Pro has a back made of tempered glass Gorilla Glass 5. The first one is instantly scratched, the second one shows all the fingerprints, so this is strictly for everyone.

Our recommendation : when buying in Russia, you should take the Galaxy A52, which will be cheaper. If you buy smartphones with a guarantee, then at the official price of Redmi Note 10 Pro you can already watch the older version A52 8/256 - Rostets devices are available for this money in many online stores. And when ordering from Aliexpress, especially at various sales with a price tag in the region of 20 thousand, Note 10 Pro will be the preferred choice.

Poco X3 Pro

Another smartphone from the Xiaomi sub-brand. A model for those who need maximum performance for relatively little money. The smart has not yet reached our official retail outlets, but you can already get it on Ali: versions 6/128 and 8/256 GB are available for ~18 and 22 thousand rubles, respectively.

Advantages of Poco X3 Pro:

  • The device is equipped with a Snapdragon 860 processor - this is the most powerful chip in the mid-price segment, scoring almost 480 thousand points in Antutu. In games and when solving resource-intensive tasks, the X3 Pro is on average 73% more powerful than the A52.
  • It has the fastest UFS 3.1 memory and 6 GB of LPDDR4x RAM in the basic version. Xiaomi restarts applications less often, opens them more vigorously, lags less, and generally works faster in the interface in direct comparison.
  • A more powerful battery and faster charging: 5160 mAh and 33 W - here the situation is similar to the previous pair.
  • Poco X3 Pro uses a 6.67-inch IPS screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is not as bright, produces a less saturated and contrasty picture, but has no problems with PWM and, in general, will please fans of IPS panels - the quality of the panel is quite good.
  • There is an infrared port for controlling household appliances.

Both smart phones have NFC, stereo sound and a minijack, but the Galaxy A52 clearly surpasses its competitors in the quality of photos with the main and wide-angle cameras. It has moisture protection, and in general the Korean looks more solid. Poco X3 Pro is a big plastic shovel with a distinctive design, but it has no alternatives in terms of price/performance ratio.

By the way, both Redmi Note 10 Pro and Poco X3 Pro are presented in basic versions. You can save about 10 thousand rubles and take it, but in the first case you will lose the 120 Hz OLED display, and the regular Poco X3 does not have brutal performance - it is based on the Snapdragon 732 chip.
