HUAWEI Honor Band: how to turn it on and what to do if it doesn’t turn on

Functions and capabilities of Huawei and Honor watches

Smart watches made in China have a low price, and their functionality is comparable to that of the Apple Watch. In this regard, wearable accessories from Huawei and Honor continue to gain increasing popularity.

Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei aimed at the European market. In fact, the devices of the two brands are very similar to each other.

This is not to say that you can find a huge number of watch models from Huawei and Honor on the market. As a rule, each brand releases one device per year. Therefore, it makes sense to compare the 2 most popular models:

  • Huawei Watch GT2;
  • Honor Magic Watch 2.

From the table it will become clear how the devices differ and what functions they are equipped with.

It turns out that the devices are not much different from each other. In both cases, the buyer sees a smart watch in front of him to track and analyze activity. Both devices measure heart rate, count steps, and provide detailed workout information.

The only advantage of Huawei watches is measuring oxygen levels in the blood. In addition, the design of the Huawei accessory is more strict. In this sense, the Honor device is aimed at a young audience. You can also appreciate the certain difference between the gadgets after watching the following video.

Be that as it may, no significant differences in functionality were noticed. You need to choose one device or another based on your own taste. The cost of the devices is at approximately the same level (12-15 thousand rubles).

In addition to smart watches, the line of Huawei and Honor devices includes smart bracelets, which are incredibly popular.

Smartwatch HUAWEI Watch Fit (TIA-B09)

Hi all. Today I want to talk about high-quality smart watches from Huawei, which have a laconic and at the same time modern, trendy design. This smart watch has a fairly long battery life, has a high-quality, relatively large color display (Amoled 1.64 inches), and is also waterproof. Seeing this watch, you immediately ask yourself several questions: Does it reveal the full potential of this gadget? Why are they so expensive and is it worth it? Have they gone far from the capabilities of fitness bracelets or are marketers again fooling us? I'll try to figure it out.

A moment of reflection.

As far as I understand, the watch is positioned by Huawei more as a niche product for people leading an active lifestyle. On the one hand, no attention is paid to contactless payment, negotiation functions via watches, and other features that could be included in this compact product. On the other hand, in my opinion, the development and design of a more complex device is a very costly, risky, complex and lengthy project, even in 2020, and obviously with an unclear target audience at the moment, at least not very extensive, which will not allow getting any significant profit, or worse, will only allow you to go into the red... In general, the prospects are vague. Here, they probably decided to follow the beaten track and concentrate on sports, rather than “break through” a new niche alone.

I'll start with the appearance of the watch. These smart watches, in fact, are not very different from the same “reference” Apple Watch, in particular the 4th generation, which in some cases can be both good (the device is accessible to many) and bad (all devices are too similar and there is some stagnation ideas). But, in fairness, it is worth noting that experimenting with design in such a niche is a bit of a challenge, and even if you look at the same smartphones, usually devices of the same year from different manufacturers are also very similar to each other, there are only minor differences.

All this, in my opinion, is due to the fact that the element base (its capabilities) and hardware suppliers are the same for everyone, and the competition is fierce, and at the same time, all manufacturers strive to roll out fresh models as quickly as possible, equipping them as as much as possible with newer hardware (since initially I was talking more about design, here we are talking more about displays and batteries as design shapers), thereby somehow standing out and collecting the cream, in particular, on relatively expensive and premium models, because Most buyers want to somehow stand out from the crowd thanks to their newly acquired gadget. The situation is the same with smart watches.

Due to the emergence of high-quality color displays with low power consumption, as well as the emergence of low-power SoCs capable of managing them (although they existed before, we are talking only about a slight evolution), it became possible to use a battery in conjunction with them that is sufficient for long-term operation , cram all this into a relatively large case for a watch, without creating discomfort for the person wearing it. It turns out that it is difficult to move significantly away from such a “typical” design, either “to the right” or “to the left,” while there are still limited capabilities of modern hardware, in particular in terms of energy consumption, and common sense will not allow this to be done, the whole battle between manufacturers will rest on the capabilities and development of the software (in its quality and convenience, features), in clear positioning of the product. The more functions we have, the more difficult it is to develop and control the software.

Of course, it is possible to release a device in the same case that is more powerful in terms of functionality, but then the boundaries with the same smartphones, the performance bar of which is now set high, will be blurred; it’s obviously not possible to cram the same hardware into a watch case, and it’s unlikely that anyone will like it charge them three times a day, even if you cram in something more or less working at the level of a smartphone, but why and how to output the processed information, you again need a satellite device...

In general, in my opinion, it is quite clear that at the center of the ecosystem of modern mobile gadgets is a smartphone and its possible companion devices, in particular smart watches, and it is very difficult to say unambiguously what functions they should have.

In fact, it’s a squeak, but this idea also fits into the lack of the possibility of contactless payments in the watches under review, because whoever bought this watch is unlikely to be walking around with a very old or very cheap smartphone that does not have NFC.

It is worth noting that quite a lot of people in Russia buy smartphones for the same $99 (or a little more), even if they are not built on the most modern hardware, but they quite comfortably allow them to satisfy all modern needs and trends. These are devices that have significant complexity but also great competition in the industry, coupled with large production batches, and having a corresponding cost price. For smart watches, production volumes are lower, the niche is also noticeably smaller, but the opportunities for margins and market capture can be much higher, let’s take a closer look at what they offer us:

What did Huawei manage to do for $99?

A smart watch is a device with a pleasant, well-designed design, has a metal body (alloy) with smooth edges, and quite a noticeable weight when you hold it in your hand, but once you put it on your hand, there are no memories of the former weight, which indicates that that this moment was well thought out.

The following characteristics are declared:

1. Dimensions: 45x30x11 mm, actual weight with strap: 36 grams. 2. Amoled display with a diagonal of 1.64 inches, with a resolution of 280 * 456 (326PPI, 16M). 3. 2.5D glass. 4. Support Bluetooth 5.0. 5. Built-in GPS receiver. 6. Sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, optical heart rate sensor, light sensor. 7. “Magnetic” charging, current up to 2A. (charged quickly from PC from 0, in about 30 minutes) 8. Up to 10 days of battery life (with the most flexible settings to reduce energy consumption and average usage). 9. Waterproof 5 ATM. 10. 4GB ROM (but it’s not clear why there is so much, since the user himself cannot store anything in it), 128MB RAM, 180mAh battery. System requirements: Android 5.0 and later, iOS 9.0 and later. The seller gives a 6 month warranty.

I note that the device, in addition to the heart rate monitor function, can determine the level of blood oxygen saturation - SpO2. Not so long ago, the ability to control this parameter appeared in a number of models of smart bracelets and watches, and now this option is being promoted as a kind of indicator, based on the readings of which (significant differences from the norm) it is recommended to go and take a test for a well-known virus. The accuracy of the measurement is in question, but once again, if possible, why not get checked so as not to infect others if you have suspicions, and you also need to think about yourself after all.

The watch arrived very well packaged, the box was without a single damage, if someone takes it as a gift, then you don’t have to worry about the “unmarketable” appearance of the box after shipping.

Packaging, complete set.

As you can see, the main capabilities of the device are duplicated on the box.

We immediately see two mini-books - a guarantee and the actual “instructions”, in which nothing is written except about pairing the device, and information about that data slips through, but for some reason only in the section with the Turkish language. Although the application is intuitive, the fact that the capabilities are not described in detail in the instructions is somewhat strange, given the manufacturer and cost of the device, but this is more of a nuance than a serious drawback.

Instructions

Also included is a high-quality charging cord with an original magnetic connector. Of course, they could make a regular Micro USB, but you need to remember that the watch is waterproof, which shows the use of this type of connector. If you lose the cable it will be very unpleasant. Well, the smart watch itself.

I would like to immediately tell you in more detail about the smart watch case and the features of the charging connector. The case is made of some kind of alloy, I think the base is aluminum (side frame), on top there is glass, similar to those used on smartphones. The back cover is plastic, the plastic is pleasant, the texture and color is made to look like metal, there is also a large plastic penny that sticks out somewhat in relation to the back cover, where the sensor for measuring pulse and SpO2 is located.

The strap is soft, silicone, pleasant to the touch, does not press too much, and has many holes for more precise setting of the most suitable one. At the same time, the strap itself is quite easily soiled if you accidentally drop a drop on it or take it with wet hands, due to the fact that it is absolutely smooth, but no fingerprints remain on it. Strap length 11.5cm+8.5cm. The strap is available in 4 colors. The strap is removable.

The length of the watch case itself is about 4.5 cm, width 3 cm, thickness 11 cm, weight measured as 35.63 grams, although there is information on the Internet that they weigh 21 grams, which is clearly not true, at least with a strap (without a strap there is no point in this information ). The scales are quite accurate, tested using standard weights.

Peculiarities

PS Before writing the review, I did not remove the protective film, since I will order a protective glass, and the film is a temporary solution so as not to scratch the screen.

Ergonomics and control.

Management is implemented quite competently. There is a single physical button located in the right center, as a kind of tribute to the classic watch. When pressed, the device menu opens. You can see a GIF with the menu here: link (couldn’t insert it into the review)

Some functions can be opened without using a button, entirely using the touchscreen. The touchscreen in this device works nicely, no jerks or malfunctions were noticed.

Options for basic settings appear when the curtain is opened; just swipe your finger down the screen. There you can configure: 1. The display mode of the picture of the main displayed window can be configured, either it will light up for 5 minutes (though at a time), or turn off after a few seconds (by default). 2. There is also a “do not disturb” option; in this mode, vibration will be turned off for incoming calls and notifications, and the screen will no longer turn on when you move your hand. This is also a very convenient and necessary option, it’s good that it was made available for “quick access”. 3. Phone search button, when pressed, the phone starts beeping loudly. 4. Setting the alarm. 5. Key to go to the main settings menu.

In the settings menu you can set the following points:

Screen options:

1. Theme of the watch face. 2. Screensaver type. 3. Selected training programs. 4. Display brightness (5 modes + auto by sensor 5. Sleep mode settings (10 sec/15 sec/20 sec/auto). 6. Screen activity settings. If in the drop-down menu with the main options it was possible to select only screen operation for 5 minutes, here you can choose from 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes.:

I chose the following themes for the watch face (main screen) and splash screen:

If the built-in catalog of themes is not enough, then watch face themes can be downloaded in the application (there are more than a hundred of them), but you need to register. As a screen saver, you can choose a screen saver for a classic hand clock with the hands moving once a minute, while the screen saver can be constantly on.

With all this, the watch shows good battery life, the battery does not even think of running out quickly, including thanks to the well-rendered dark themes. I would also like to note the good quality of the quartz built into this smart watch; after a day without synchronization with BT (although this is not much, but still), the watch runs very accurately with the smartphone time.

Vibration settings:

Strong/Weak/Disable. There is no average.

Notification settings:

Do not disturb all day or as scheduled.

Automatic activity detection mode

in it, the watch will remind you to start or end a workout if it sees that your activity has changed.

System Settings

reboot/shutdown/reset.

To go back through the menu, you need to swipe right.

Navigation through some functions such as heart rate, stress, weather, music, static, is available by scrolling right/left

Quickly navigate through functions

If the smart watch turns off the screen, just shake it a little and the screen will turn on. At the same time, in my opinion, they are configured very well, they almost do not react to random movements, and this will not irritate and once again eat up the battery.

The screen itself has good display quality and very good viewing angles:

It looks like it's a printed picture, but it's an image on the screen. The quality is similar to a good smartphone with the same type of screen.

Translation quality, notification output, firmware.

Firmware updates arrive over the air, the device asks to be updated. During the week-long period of operation, the clock has already been updated 2 times. I didn’t notice any changes in the interface, so these were software edits and optimizations.

SMS, application notifications and incoming calls are displayed correctly:

I would also like to note such a nuance that even if you keep the watch connected to the smartphone via BT, the data from it will not be automatically entered into the application history, you must first launch the corresponding action, for example, walking, and only after that the history will be filled in for this number, I found it like this for about 10 km with the watch, then I checked the next day, and everything in the application was empty.

The watch can work autonomously without an app, showing how to perform exercises, monitoring the parameters of the athlete's physical condition, and then displaying final statistics. But to set up triggers and be able to view detailed statistics by day, you need to use the application.

Another point is that the application says that it summarizes data on walking, both from a smartphone and from a watch (it’s not clear how and why). Indeed, if you leave your watch at home, the application counts your steps for some reason. If I'm not wearing a watch, I probably don't want to watch my steps. And information with the number of steps is constantly hanging out in the notification shade. This option is enabled by default in the application, when you disable it, the application warns that the connection between the watch and the smartphone may not be stable, apparently in this way the BT connection is artificially maintained. When you disable this option, notifications on the watch stop coming, for example, during a call.

Application menu

Here, in the main application window, we see the current data on steps and travel time, the distance and calories burned are immediately calculated. Here, you can manually enter data on your workout (for example, the time and distance of running on a treadmill, with the date), the application itself will calculate the average pace, speed and calories. In the same window you can view heart rate data during training. It is possible to monitor your sleep, as well as connect scales from the same manufacturer, and also monitor your weight. Also, stress is calculated (initially, you need to pass a psychological test, then, based on the test data and apparently physical data, the application makes a conclusion about the stress level), and the previously mentioned SpO2 function.

Next, in the “exercises” section, you can select the type of exercise and monitor its progress. Here you can choose both exercises performed indoors: running on a treadmill (without GPS connection), and exercises performed outdoors: without, cycling, walking (here the distance traveled will be determined by GPS, which will be more accurate than measuring steps, plus visually map and these can be shared).

In the next section, you can see the connected device itself, its charge level, and choose a dial design from the proposed options (registration and installation required, about a hundred different options). Directly on the watch itself, you can also select a dial style from those already preset, and select a screensaver style.

The next menu has the self-explanatory name “Me”, here you can configure the user profile parameters (age, gender, weight.)

In addition to the profile parameters, we are interested in setting up target triggers, threshold and heart rate limits for issuing notifications, and setting up the notifications themselves. In fact, everything is done correctly, there is nothing superfluous.

I also made a screen recording using the application.

Results.

Pros of the device:

1. Personal trainer in a watch. All exercises are shown in the form of animation, very clearly, with transitions between them, while constant monitoring of the pulse is carried out, dips in activity and excessive surges are tracked, with instant notifications. Suitable for users with any level of physical fitness and experience. 2. Possibility of monitoring pulse and SpO2. 3. Ability to read messages and information about an incoming call. The caller's name is pulled up correctly. 4. Accurate data about the route traveled, thanks to GPS. 5. Waterproof. 6. The battery really lasts a long time, I actively wore the watch for 3 days, not sparing the battery with screen settings, it was only discharged by 50%. 7. The strap is really very good. When I put on the watch for the first time and went for a walk, I didn’t immediately remember that I was wearing the watch, I just didn’t feel like it was on my hand, although I had been googling for several hours. The strap is very soft and quite wide, apparently this is its feature. 8. Clear translation. 9. Reliable manufacturer with frequent software updates, and likely a long product life and support. 10. Good design and style of the case.

Cons: 1. In my opinion, the cost is excessive, if you take it only at the time of sales, like now. 2. There is no way to delete messages from your smartphone. 3. No contactless payments. 4. Information on the steps taken should hang out in the curtain to maintain a connection via BT.

In general, this smart watch is made competently, everything is thought out, there is essentially nothing else to complain about except for the instructions and the magnetic charging cable, and these quibbles are not significant.

Here you can clearly see a finished, serious and supported product (and not like in Chinese bracelets, which pretend to be sawing off the firmware, and are sawing off on your knees after active sales), both in terms of thoughtfulness, quality of software combined with hardware capabilities, and in terms of overall control ergonomics, ease of use (large screen, good strap, waterproof), and at the same time with good battery life.

I can definitely recommend it for purchase if you need exactly this functionality, but with the caveat only of the cost of the product, in my opinion it is slightly overpriced.

What applications are needed to connect the watch to a Honor phone?

The smart watch is paired with the phone via the Bluetooth protocol. This is a wireless communication method that operates at a distance of 10-100 meters, depending on the Bluetooth version.

Unlike wireless headphones, the watch cannot be connected to the phone simply through the settings menu. The owner of an Honor smartphone will need to download a special application. It's called Huawei Health. As a rule, the program is already preinstalled on the phone. But if you have a Xiaomi, Samsung or other brand mobile device in your hands, you will need to open Google Play and find the appropriate software.

Unfortunately, other fitness apps like Mi Fit or Samsung Health won't work for pairing. Regardless of the brand of smartphone, a person will still need to download software from Huawei. But there is no need to worry about the fact that the owner of a smartwatch is not provided with a wide selection of connections. Huawei Health has all the necessary functionality to monitor your workouts or simply count your steps:

  • counting steps, distance traveled, and calories burned;
  • different training modes;
  • detailed analysis of the training process, including heart rate and elevation changes;
  • advanced sleep quality analysis system;
  • many watch customization functions, including changing the main screen;
  • setting up notifications and other features of a Huawei or Honor accessory.

In this regard, every person who wants to connect a Huawei or Honor smartwatch needs to take care of downloading and installing special software. The download speed will depend on the quality of the Internet connection, and the installation will be completed in a few seconds.

How to connect a watch to an Honor phone

As noted earlier, to pair with a smartphone, we will need the Huawei Health application. Next you need to proceed according to the following scenario:

  1. Charge both devices.
  2. Activate bluetooth on your phone.
  3. Open the Huawei Health app.
  4. Click the “+” button to add a new device.
  5. Go to the “Smart Watches” category.
  6. Choose your model.

After this, the pairing process itself will begin. Remember that the Bluetooth sensor on your phone must be activated to connect. It is enabled through the quick access panel or settings.

The first connection may take 10-20 minutes, as updates will be transferred from the phone to the watch. In the future, the accessory will automatically pair in a couple of seconds if there is a Bluetooth connection.

Question answer

We have discussed the main points about pairing the gadget, but there are still a number of questions that interest users. Let's reveal them in more detail.

At what distance will they work?

Smart watches are equipped with two chips: Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Most devices work via Bluetooth. This radio chip has two versions: 4.0 and 5.0, if we take current models. For new versions, from 5.0 and higher, the transmission/reception distance can reach 20-25 meters in a straight line. Models with chip 4.0 operate at 10-15 meters. If you take a room, then the signal can pass through 3 walls for 5.0; through 2 partitions for 4.0. Again, the greater the distance, the worse the quality of the connection. In both cases, it is better to be in the same room with the source.

Can it be connected to a PC or laptop?

Gadgets in the Apple ecosystem work through iTunes on a PC or laptop. That is, they can be controlled in a similar way. There are no direct solutions for Android. Most likely you will have to use crutch applications or emulators from third-party developers.

Is it possible to untie the smart bracelet and reconfigure it to another phone?

Yes. Disconnect the device from Bluetooth, erase pairings, and remove the gadget from the application on your smartphone. Then create a new pair with another phone.

What is a SIM card for?

Some smartwatches work as a standalone communication gadget. The user inserts a SIM card into a wearable device and receives a “smartphone” with reduced functionality in the form factor of a watch. In this case, the device can also be connected to a phone.

What apps might be useful?

Most often, programs are installed to pair a watch and a smartphone. These are the main applications. Professional and amateur athletes install additional software to track their own activity and share their achievements. For example, the Strava app is popular among runners.

Why do you need to synchronize?

Pairing with a smartphone is required:

  1. For transmitting data from built-in sensors in smart watches (pedometer, heart rate counter, blood oxygen sensor, ECG and others).
  2. To calculate the exact route based on data from your smartphone and the watch itself.
  3. To display notifications and calls on the display of a wearable gadget.

How to charge your watch

According to the manufacturer, new models of Huawei and Honor watches can work for up to 10 days. But you still have to charge them periodically. Especially for such purposes, the package already includes a charging station and cable.

But you will have to take care of the power supply yourself. Either the developers saved money on this most important element of the package, or they simply saved free space in the box. Be that as it may, you will need to find a power supply with a USB-A connector. If it is, then the buyer can be congratulated. He can immediately charge the watch.

To do this, you will need to connect the connectors of the charging station to the bottom of the watch case, and connect the battery with a USB cable to the power adapter inserted into the socket.

Even though the watch has a modest battery compared to modern smartphones, charging is not instantaneous. It will take an hour and a half to fully restore energy from 0%. However, this is also not very much to start talking about Huawei or Honor in a negative way. Once the accessory is charged, you can put it on your hand again and enjoy the operating experience.

Answers to popular questions

Lost connection to bracelet

If Honor Band 6 loses connection with the phone, then the problem is in Bluetooth. Try to keep the gadget close to your mobile device. Since different versions of Bluetooth modules provide communication at different distances. For some it is more, for others it is less. Also, some smartphones have a feature that automatically turns off Bluetooth after a certain time. It should be turned off.

Pairing with phone does not stop

At the moment of synchronization, you should look at the bracelet. It will ask you to confirm pairing, after which pairing should complete.

How to set the clock

Of course, the functionality of a smartwatch is not even close to the capabilities of a smartphone. Yes, even in comparison with the Apple Watch, the advantage is on the side of the accessory of the American company. But still, Honor and Huawei watches require fine tuning. This allows the device owner to save battery power if he disables useless functions, or, conversely, to get the full maximum out of the device.

The gadget is configured through the previously discussed Huawei Health application. So, through the software you can immediately change the dial to a more attractive one.

You can also activate the TruSleep function in the watch settings. It monitors the state of sleep based on the user's heart rate. As a result, in the morning the owner of the device can read a detailed analysis and draw a conclusion regarding sleep adjustments.

A report prepared by a smartwatch will look something like this:

In addition, in Huawei Health you will be able to customize the display of various notifications when you receive calls and messages. By the way, the text of the letter or the name of the caller will be displayed on the watch screen. But do not forget to give the program the appropriate permissions before doing this.

Bottom line

We have provided you with instructions on how to connect your watch to your Android phone and iPhone. Before pairing two devices, we recommend that you read the manual included with the wearable gadget. Find out how the connection to your smartphone should occur: through a special application or through Bluetooth settings.

When connecting, carefully read the recommendations and tips in each of the steps that will help you complete the procedure correctly.

Write in the comments if you have any difficulties connecting your phone to a smart watch, and if you have found ways to solve the problem.

How to connect your watch to another phone

Despite the fact that the production of this gadget is carried out by Huawei and Honor, the watch works perfectly in combination with a smartphone of any other brand. It could be Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus and even iPhone. The main condition for connection is to download and install the Huawei Health application in advance.

The further plan of action is no different from how pairing was set up on Honor.

That is, the owner of the smartphone will need to open the designated program, click “+”, select your watch and click the “Pair” button. In a couple of minutes the connection will be configured.

Please note that the smart watch works in conjunction with only one smartphone. That is, to connect to another device, you will first need to disconnect the device from the old phone.

Instructions for Android

There are many programs for Android to control wearable gadgets and other equipment. In particular - Mi Fit (Xiaomi), Huawei Wear (Huawei and Honor), Galaxy Wearable (Samsung). But the Wear OS application from Google is considered the most popular and multifunctional. A large number of smart watches and fitness bracelets work with it.

Instructions:

  1. Install Wear OS applications from the Play Market or other software recommended by the manufacturer. Wear OS can be downloaded from the link below. The proprietary utility is downloaded by scanning the QR code in the user manual.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone: “Settings” -> “Bluetooth”. Or through the top notification curtain.
  3. Turn on the smart watch and hold down the button until the flashing indication appears. The device will go into search and pairing mode. The combination of buttons and type of indication may vary. See your user manual for exact details.
  4. Go to the Wear OS app. Tap on the “Add new device” item. The program will show a list of supported gadgets. Select the desired watch model. Click on it. The pairing process will begin.

Sometimes the program asks you to enter a PIN code to gain access to the watch. Look at the code on the box or in the user manual. Often the initial PIN code is: "0000" or "1234". After pairing is established, perform the initial setup of the device.

How to connect another watch to your phone

You can also set up pairing with other watches on your phone. For example, with the Honor Band fitness bracelet. The principle of operation is exactly the same as with Honor Magic Watch. Just open the application, press the “+” button and select another device.

But the same limitation will apply here as in the case of connecting to another smartphone. That is, you must first unpair the watch, and only then connect to another wearable device.

In addition, do not forget that the Huawei Health application only works in conjunction with Honor and Huawei technicians. For Apple, Xiaomi or Samsung watches you need to use a different program.

Apple Watch with Android

Apple plans to release a paid application for owners of Android smartphones so that they can synchronize their iWatch with their mobile device. But for now, there is an alternative method that allows you to connect the Watch Series with a non-Apple smartphone. To do this, you need to install third-party software on both gadgets. Then you can connect them via Bluetooth connection.

  1. Download and install the Aerlink: Wear Connect for iOS app on your phone.
  2. Download and install the BLE Utility program on your Apple Watch.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth on your mobile phone.
  4. Launch the Aerlink app on Android.
  5. In this program, activate the iOS Service on your mobile device (the message about disabling notifications must be ignored).
  6. On your watch, open the Aerlink alert. If it is missing, repeat step 4.
  7. Your phone will notify you that a connected device has been detected. If this does not happen, repeat steps 4-6.
  8. Tap on the notification and wait for pairing (the watch will notify you of successful pairing).

We would like to warn you that when connecting devices with different platforms, not all functions on the Apple watch will work. And options that work independently of the phone will be available depending on the model and specifications of the smartphone.

Ask a Question

Question to the expert

The phone does not see the clock when connected

Make sure your wearable device is 100% charged. Otherwise, the smartphone will under no circumstances be able to detect the device. It is also recommended to check the functionality of Bluetooth.

There are constant communication failures

Smart watches must have a permanent connection to the phone via Bluetooth. If it is not currently active, pairing will not work. In addition, the connection is interrupted when the owner moves too far from the smartphone with the watch.

Information about calls and calls is not displayed on the watch screen

The problem may be related to both the operation of Bluetooth and the settings of the smart watch. Huawei Health may be blocked from receiving notifications. In addition, the Huawei Health app must be granted permission to access the device's contacts.

For smartphones running on IOS

  • For IOS users, you will also need to download and download the Huawei Health add-on. It can be found in the APP Store. A previously installed add-on must be updated to the latest version.
  • Next you need to go to this add-on. Then find the “Devices” section. Then click on the line “+”, “Smart watches”. Here you select a wrist gadget that needs to be connected to the phone.
  • By clicking “Pair”, the add-on automatically finds the device to pair. Then, by clicking on the watch model, pairing occurs.
  • An icon (√) should appear on the display; by clicking on it, the wrist gadget and smartphone are paired.

Linking children's smart watches to a smartphone

You can link your child's watch to your parent's phone using the free Setracker app. It is available for both Android and iOS. To do this, the watch must have a special 15-digit Reg Code registration code. As a rule, it takes the form of a QR code, which is printed on a sticker placed on the back of the device case or packaging box.

  1. Install Setracker on your phone.
  2. In the running program, click the “Registration” button.
  3. Please enter a valid email address.
  4. Enter the verification code from the picture.
  5. Create and enter a password.
  6. Select your language.
  7. Select your region from the list, depending on what region you live in (usually Europe/Africa or Asia/Oceania).
  8. Read the terms and conditions and agree to them.
  9. Click "Confirm Registration".

  10. If necessary, log in with your details.
  11. In the window that opens, click the “Start linking” button or in the window that opens, when the message “Your account has not been linked to any device, please link,” click “OK.”

  12. Manually enter the 15 digit Reg Code or scan the QR code on your watch.
  13. Write the child's name.
  14. Choose your purpose: mom, dad, grandma, etc.
  15. Click OK.
  16. After successful linking, you will have to log into your account using your username (email) and password.

Sports functions

Step counting is not the most accurate. For example, where Garmin vivoactive 3 showed 4,307, Huawei showed only 4,020. It’s the same with running and walking: Huawei always showed less distance than Garmin.

In terms of heart rate, everything is more or less normal: the readings almost coincide with the measurements from the Wahoo Tickr chest heart rate monitor. Except that on average they are slightly too high at around 5 beats per minute and with strange peaks. But you cannot connect an external heart rate monitor to the watch itself and display readings on it.

Heart rate readings during exercise, Huawei Watch 3. Strange peaks are visible; the maximum value recorded by the watch is 159 beats per minute

Heart rate readings during training, Wahoo Tickr 2 transmitting readings to Garmin vivoactive 3. No unexpected peaks, maximum heart rate value is 141 beats per minute

At the same time, several dozen activities are available on the watch—for one run there are as many as 13 options. And for each, you can set goals: by calories, by time and by other parameters, if any. That is, in terms of tracking various types of fitness, Huawei Watch 3 is well equipped. The watch tracks some activities and starts automatically.

Huawei's most amazing solution is the Assistant Coach. During the lesson, every 10 minutes the clock in English (even if the system is set to Russian) tells how much time has passed, what the owner’s pulse is at the moment, and encourages. These sound alerts can be turned off by going to the workout menu and adjusting the volume with the slider. It would seem that the most obvious option is to put the adjustment on the rotary wheel, but no: during the lesson it scrolls through screens of parameters.

The problem is that the volume is set to maximum for each subsequent workout and has to be turned off again (at least on our test sample). And it's easy to forget about it.

And as a result, for example, during squats, the watch can joyfully notify the entire gym that my wonderful owner has already been working out for 10 minutes, he is so smart! And the speaker of the Huawei Watch 3 is loud, and especially at such moments.
