Blog RumikomInstructionsHow to find out IMEI on Xiaomi
IMEI
(International Mobile Equipment Identity) - international mobile equipment identifier - a 15-bit number in decimal notation, unique for each device using it.
Due to the fact that most modern smartphones support two SIM cards, they also have two IMEI numbers. How to find out the IMEI number of your smartphone?
METHOD 1
Smartphone packaging
There is always a sticker on the package that shows the IMEI numbers.
METHOD 2
Telephone
You need to dial the code: *#06# in the standard (not working in third-party) smartphone dialer.
METHOD 3
Engineering menu
We have already described in one of our articles how to get there, how to use it and why you need the Engineering Menu. To enter, go to: “Settings” - “About phone” - click 5 times in a row on the “Kernel version” item. In the window that appears, select the first item “Software version”.
Also, to enter the Engineering menu, you can dial a special code in the standard dialer: *#*#6484#*#*.
Depending on the smartphone model, the codes may differ, the following options are possible: *#*#3646633#*#* or *#*#4636#*#* .
If you purchased your smartphone secondhand or bought it from an unreliable store, compare the IMEI of the phone with the IMEI of the smartphone box; if they differ, then perhaps this smartphone is stolen.
Also, using IMEI and serial number, you can check the authenticity of your smartphone. There is a special page for this on the official Xiaomi website .
If, after specifying your IMEI and serial number, it tells you that such equipment is not available, then your device has nothing to do with Xiaomi, and is most likely a fake.

To distinguish a fake smartphone from an original one, use the effective and simple method of checking Xiaomi by IMEI on the manufacturer’s official website. This manipulation will not take much time, and it is extremely necessary, since the Chinese brand, due to its high popularity, is actively counterfeited. The article presents current, proven and truly working methods.
How to find out IMEI
IMEI is a special code that carries technical information about the phone. With it you can find the device if lost. This number is unique. If it turns out that it is not genuine, it means that the specific product is only a copy of the original device.
IMEI can be found in several ways. However, none of them guarantees the authenticity of the smartphone until it is verified by a special service. Because particularly inventive scammers enter an invalid number into the phone’s engineering menu. That is why you first need to find out the IMEI number, and then take measures to detect a fake.
To find out the combination of numbers, use different methods:
- Take the smartphone box and look at it. On the back side in the barcode area there will be the inscriptions IMEI 1 and IMEI This is what you need.
- Enter the dialing menu. It is standard and supports entering various combinations. One of them can be used to identify IMEI codes. After entering the command *#06#, both numbers will become available. It is important that IMEI 1 and IMEI 2 differ from each other, but at the same time match those printed on the box. If there are differences, it means that the attackers were able to change the IMEI to create a copy as similar as possible to the original device.
- Go to the “Settings” menu item on your phone and define these types of numbers there. After entering this section, you will need to click on the “About device” item. Next, go to the “Kernel” (to do this you need to touch the line 5 times), and then enter the “Version Information” menu. This menu will display all the necessary information.
How to check Xiaomi imei number using USSD code
This is the easiest way to find your phone's IMEI number. The good thing is that this method is more or less universal. It works with almost all feature phones and smartphones, so give it a try before you go looking for your phone receipt.
- Dial *#06#
on your phone. - The IMEI number will now be displayed on the screen. You should write down the Xiaomi imei number, or you can always take a screenshot.
Website authentication
Xiaomi knows that their devices are being counterfeited, so a special service has been developed that verifies authenticity using the widest database. This will help you quickly, reliably and reliably find out whether the smartphone is genuine. To get started you will need:
- on the official website, available at https://www.mi.com/verify/#secur_en, click on the “Xiaomi Product Authentication” column;
- take a smartphone box and on the back of it erase a special area covered with a shiny film, similar to those used on lottery tickets;
- enter the 20-digit number from the erased area into the site line called “Please enter your security code”;
- fill out the captcha (available opposite the next line) in the appropriate area and click “Verify” (as shown in the previous screenshot).
If the information is not provided online and the page remains not updated, the user will see an inscription above the “Please enter your security code” column indicating that such a number does not exist. This will mean only one thing - the smartphone is a fake.
How to find out the Xiaomi phone model by IMEI on the website
Using the IMEI and serial number, it is possible to find out not only about the authenticity of the device, but also about which company model is being tested. After all, not all users know the Xiaomi phone model. Since many smartphones of this Chinese company received names that are practically no different from each other. So, to find out about the authenticity and model of the device, you will need:
- Go to the company's website at https://www.mi.com/verify/#imei_en.
- In the “Verify your phone purchase” section, enter the number. It is required in the “IMEI Or S/N” column.
Note: "S/N" is the serial number. It is also available on the box and is located under the barcode.
- In the “Please enter your security code” line, enter the captcha symbols opposite.
- Click on the “Verify” button to obtain information about your smartphone.
If the page is updated and information about the amount of RAM and internal memory appears, as well as the full name of the smartphone along with the model, then it has been authenticated.
Check at the point of purchase
- Check the IMEI code, you will find it here:
- Under the battery.
- On the back of the case - many new phones use built-in batteries that cannot be removed. In this case, the serial numbers and IMEI are located on the back of the case - or directly on it.
- On the box - the number lines are on a special plate, which the manufacturer sticks next to the barcode.
- In the SIM card slot - this mainly applies to models with a built-in battery. They have special slots into which we insert a SIM card or micro SD card. The information we are interested in is often placed on a small retractable part.
- Check the box. It should have special holographic stickers.
- Check the charger. The original cable is soft and bends very easily.

Why check
Let’s immediately answer the key question: why bother checking the purchased device for originality?
? First, let's talk about the banal problems that the copy owner faces:
- Low quality product
.
In most cases, fakes are not of high quality. And here the user will notice external differences: fragile plastic, scratches, chips
. Let's take the Mi Band 4 as an example. The strap of the fake fitness watch is hard and rough, the display is easy to scratch, and the internal systems are not working properly or accurately. - Poor functionality
. This is especially noticeable on non-original smartphones. Mobile devices freeze, the system crashes, applications refuse to launch. Similar problems may be caused by firmware: “Vietnamese” and localized ones. - It is impossible to find a lost device
. Successful search is not possible due to fake IMEI. Fraudsters assign identical serial numbers to products, while original Xiaomi products only have unique imei and s/n.
By checking for originality, you will be sure that you have purchased a high-quality branded device. Otherwise, contact the store where the purchase was made.
Checking Xiaomi originality through applications
To check, you can use third-party applications that will quickly and clearly show whether your smartphone is genuine.
AnTuTu Officer
This application is a simple utility that will check your device for originality once or twice. AnTuTu Officer has been removed from Google Play, but it can be downloaded through the Xiaomi GetApp app store or on the official website (using a QR code) or from a mirror.
Official page of the Antutu Officer application
- After downloading, install the application, wait for this process to complete.
- Then open the official website on your computer or other device, click Start and scan the QR code.
- At the end of the process you will see the result.
- If the screen with the device name is green, then the smartphone is original.
- If the screen is black or red (depending on the version of the utility), the smartphone is fake.
- If the color comes out neither one nor the other, this does not mean that the phone is fake. This often happens with global versions of devices produced for export to other countries.
CPU-Z
The CPU-z app is available on the Google Play Store
- Download and launch the application.
- In the window you will see data about components, firmware and device status.
- Compare the specifications with those published on the official Xiaomi website or on a website with detailed data about smartphones.
How to check Xiaomi products for originality
Let's start practicing right away. Below you will find ways to check most Xiaomi devices, from phones to electric scooters. Please note that each type of equipment is tested differently.
Smartphone and tablet
Our website already has an article on how to check a Xiaomi phone for originality. We will also duplicate the most important information and basic verification methods here.
Mi Verify official website
Xiaomi developers have created a special service with which any user can check their phone or tablet. This site always shows reliable information
.
To check, you need an IMEI code or serial number (S/N) . How to find out this data? To obtain IMEI there are two options:
- We take the factory box in which we purchased the device. We are looking for a barcode
, which is the required element. - Enter the command *#06# . In the message that appears, it will be.
S/N is a little easier to recognize. Go to “Settings” - “About phone” and pay attention to the numbers next to the “Serial number” section .
Verification via Mi Verify
- Now we visit the official website to verify authenticity - Mi Verify. We check either by serial number or by imei ( enter this data in the first line
). - In the next column, enter the captcha and click “Verify” .
- Device information appears. Here it is worth paying attention to two indicators: the color of the circle and the number of checks
. If a green circle with the inscription appears, the smartphone is original; if it is red, and the number of checks for the same IMEI exceeded 5-10 attempts, then you have a fake.
Determination by external signs
A fake can also be identified by its appearance.
. Fraudsters most often use low-quality materials to make phones and tablets, and this is easy to notice when using them.
- Models with supposedly metal or glass bodies are made of ordinary plastic;
- Fingerprints and deep scratches immediately remain on the back panel;
- The display breaks from the slightest mechanical impact (a clear sign of the absence of tempered Gorilla Glass);
- The stated characteristics do not correspond to the real ones. By the way, you can check the parameters of your mobile device using the AnTuTu Benchmark
.
These verification methods are suitable for absolutely any Xiaomi series: Mi, Redmi, Android One or Mi Pad.
Smart watch and fitness tracker
It is better to check smart watches from Xiaomi visually, based on the appearance of the gadget. But, if you are a beginner and have purchased a fitness bracelet for the first time, you may not notice the differences. Several verification methods will be described below.
Huami Amazfit
The first thing you can do to identify a copy is to connect your smart watch
to the proprietary Mi Fit or Amazfit Watch application. It's very fast and simple, but it doesn't give a 100% guarantee.
The fact is that fake smart watches do not synchronize with the application; the program simply does not see the gadget via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, this parameter is conditional, since experienced scammers have recently begun to produce higher quality copies that are already paired with Mi Fit.
Next, we carefully examine the box. Amazfit watches only come in a white branded box
, no unnecessary signs or inscriptions.
We take the strap and carefully study its material. The original strap is made of soft hypoallergenic silicone
, the fake is harder and scratches (ordinary rubber). An unpleasant odor may be present.
We check the smartwatch screen for scratches, dents and abrasions.
But please note that the display may also be damaged on original Amazfit if the safe delivery rules were violated.
Xiaomi Mi Band
As with previous smartwatches, Mi Band can be immediately connected to Mi Fit. Alas, this
check does not guarantee
that this is an original device. There are more effective methods for identifying counterfeits.
Namely: even if the gadget is synchronized with the application, its unoriginality is easy to identify. Go to Mi Fit, look for the “Profile” and click on the connected model. We look at the numbers next to the “MAC address” . We write them down or remember them.
We exit the application and go back to the same point. This time the MAC address will be different from the first value because the security code is regenerated differently in the copy.
And let’s quickly go through the external differences between fitness bracelets
. For example, let's take Mi Band 3 and the recent Mi Band 4.
- The original has a longer charging cable, the copy has a shorter one;
- The wire of real fitness bracelets is matte, while that of fakes is glossy and slippery;
- The original has the Mi logo on the cable header; the fake gadget has no identifying marks;
- On a real bracelet, two green indicators light up as soon as you turn it on, while on a copy, in most cases, the heart rate monitor does not work at all.
Headphones
Now let's check the authenticity of Xiaomi headphones (over-ear, vacuum and wireless), for example, Airdots. Absolutely all headphones from this company have a sticker with an encrypted code.
. By scanning it, you can verify the originality of the product.
Xiaomi smartphones have a special system application called “Scanner”. If you are the owner of another Android phone, install any scanning add-on from Google Play.
Run the downloaded program, take a photo of the barcode
and wait for the “Product Authentication” verification page to open in your browser. A smiling bunny should appear with the words “Authentication passed!” This Mi product is authentic”, as well as the number of checks.
Power Bank
Next in line are power banks. External batteries from Xiaomi have earned the praise of millions of users, so it is not surprising that they are so often counterfeited. It is important to purchase the original product
, because the performance of the copy is in question (small capacity, poor charge of devices).
20-digit code verification
On each branded power bank, or rather on the packaging, there is a security code
, with which you can check the originality of the gadget on the Mi website.
Verification via Xiaomi Product Authentication
- We erase the protective surface and see 20 numbers
; - We use the same service as for smartphones, only go to the “Xiaomi Product Authentication” ;
- Below we enter a verification combination consisting of 4 characters;
- Click “Verify” ;
- Let's look at the test result.
Check by appearance
To make sure that the power bank is original, we will also conduct a visual inspection.
. First, decide which model and with what capacity you want to purchase. For example, it could be Xiaomi Power Bank 2 10000. The key indicator here is ten thousand milliamp-hours. Found the same external battery, but with a smaller capacity? This is definitely a fake.
When the portable battery is already in hand, we inspect its wires and connectors. The charging cable must be made of pure white material
while
the USB port inside is black . The connectors present on the power bank itself are, on the contrary, white
. This is very important because the copies have a different color combination: the charging cable in the middle is white, and the ports on the device are black.
Now we check the possibility of flow charging
. You can connect the original to a power source and at the same time charge your phone from it. The fake, unfortunately, does not have such a function. If there is no charge left in the power bank, you will first have to completely replenish it, and only then charge other devices.
Today you learned how to check the authenticity of almost all Xiaomi devices. The instructions are current and will remain so until the company comes up with additional ways to protect its original products, but we will still describe new methods.
When buying a phone or tablet from a given brand, people often want to check its originality. This can only be checked through the worldwide IMEI database, which embodies a single network with information about all gadgets and stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity - an international mobile equipment identifier.
This article will consider both the simplest options for detecting this identifier, and more advanced ones, which involve not only searching for the IMEI itself, but also other equally important parameters that will help the user determine not only its originality, but also the specifications that may not be what they should be.
How to recognize a fake Xiaomi phone
Xiaomi has become one of the most copied brands in China. Photo: softpedia.com
Externally, it is not easy to distinguish a fake from an original: often a genuine model may not be of the best quality, while a fake, on the contrary, will turn out to be very impressive. In any case, pay attention to several parameters:
- Appearance does not match description. If you were promised a metal case, but you see a plastic one, or the smartphone system differs from the standard MIUI, it is best not to purchase the device or return it to the seller.
- Poor quality assembly. If the smartphone does not look durable, the glass comes away from the body or breaks after a minor impact, then the smartphone is most likely a fake. Xiaomi uses high-quality materials for its devices, and the assembly is almost no different from top brands.
- The characteristics of the smartphone in the settings do not match the description. Even if this phone is not a fake, they are definitely trying to sell you something other than what you paid for.
- The camera does not take good pictures even at high settings. Be especially careful, be sure to check your camera settings and make sure they are set to high resolution. However, if there is simply no such option in the menu, then they are definitely trying to deceive you.
- Poor sound quality when talking. If the speaker crackles and you can hardly understand what the other person is saying, you can be sure that the smartphone is not real.
The first method is Simple
To do this, you do not need to have a solid knowledge of the operating system; you just need to dial a certain combination of numbers in the preinstalled “Phone” or “Dial” application. As soon as the dialer opens, enter the values *#06# one by one (if the entered code was not automatically calculated, press the call button). After the code has been activated, you will be able to see both IMEI1 and optionally IMEI2 and MEID. Each imei corresponds to a separate slot for a SIM card. That is, if you have a dual-SIM smartphone, then you will also have 2 IMEI codes. MEID is necessary to determine the location in case of theft or loss of the device.
How to check Xiaomi imei number using settings
On Android, go to Settings > About > IMEI to see the IMEI number. Tap Status and scroll down to view IMEI information.
iPhone has a separate manual.
On most other phones with a removable battery, the IMEI is printed on a sticker that is located inside the phone, under the battery. Remove the battery to check it.
When you don't have a phone.
The second method is Software
There are a huge number of applications for simply discovering all the characteristics and specifications of smart devices, which you just need to download on the Internet. These include AIDA64, Antutu Benchmark, CPU/GPU-Z, etc. By downloading any of the applications, you can access all the parameters and settings of your device. Also, unlike the first method, there is the possibility of all kinds of manipulations with IMEI. Copying (which cannot be done in the dialer method) directly, creating a backup and editing it - all this is possible thanks to these programs.
Checking a Xiaomi smartphone by technical specifications
Another way to check the originality of the device is to check its technical parameters. You can perform such a check as follows:
- Download the CPU-z application from the Play Market, which will allow you to display in real time the important parameters of your gadget - battery quality, battery charge, components, availability of root rights.
- Compare the actual parameters with those indicated on the website.
If any discrepancies are detected, we recommend that you conduct an additional check of your Xiaomi smartphone.
- How to check Xiaomi for authenticity and originality
Third method - With Superuser rights
If the user wants to more finely customize his device, or use substitution of the value of any of the gadgets the user has, then root rights come to the rescue, removing almost any boundaries in the Android operating system. In this case, searching, editing, replacing and entering a larger IMEI value than is possible on the device itself (for example, if the user has 1 SIM card, but wants to enter 2 or more IMEIs), occurs directly from the editor along the /system path /build.prop . As a rule, Root-Explorer or Build.prop Editor allows you not only to edit, but also to export, backup, duplicate and replace the values of all data, not just IMEI. Naturally, an inexperienced user will not be able to understand the entire mass of data that is inside this file, but taking into account the additional. instructions, anyone can understand this issue.
How to avoid counterfeits
To avoid counterfeit equipment, the investigator follows the following rules:
- Do not buy where the price is lowest (with the exception of well-known store brands);
- Purchase goods only from well-known stores;
- If possible, check the device before purchasing;
When purchasing from Aliexpress:
- Read reviews carefully;
- Choose a seller with a large number of purchases and a rich assortment;
- Do not make transactions with new sellers (these may simply disappear after a while).
Method four – Boxed
Any Xiaomi phone has its own transport packaging with a charging block and operating instructions. So, the phone itself came directly with the factory film and some markers pasted over the front and back of the device. One of them contained IMEI and MEID data. But in 99% of cases, people simply peeled off these films, throwing them away or leaving them in the same box from which they took the gadget out. The sticker may also contain information about the place of production and battery capacity. By the way, such stickers are life-saving if the original value was replaced not for the first or 10 times, when the very first and authentic number was long ago lost and forgotten. Thus, the presence of this sticker is necessary if you need to find out or edit the identifier value.
Check Xiaomi imei number on the box
The retail box and invoice have an IMEI number written on them, which is a good reason to keep them safe and not throw them away. At least keep the box safe because it will be useful if you need to check the IMEI, or if you decide to resell the phone later. The IMEI number will be a sticker on the side panel.
Method five - via Google account
Most Xiaomi smartphones have pre-installed Google applications, and the person buying the device knows that the account is linked to the device itself initially, after the first setup of the phone. You can find out the IMEI, as well as the location of the phone, through the special DASHBOARD service, available in the Google account settings. It is possible to make a call, find out the remaining percentage of battery charge, remotely lock the device, and, if possible, unlock it only by entering the IMEI of the smartphone or any other password created by the real owner of the device. This method is somewhat difficult, since it requires the phone to be on the Internet, be it mobile Internet or a regular WiFi point.
As you can see, there are quite a lot of different ways to find IMEI/MEID on any model of smart devices from Xiaomi. Considering modern realities, when this information alone will help increase the chances of finding a lost device, there is much more confidence that it can still be found. Previously, if some application was unavailable in the market, you can safely download it after substituting the identification number (instructions above). But, as for any intentional changes to the root values of the phone, any operations with it will void the warranty on the device, reducing the likelihood of a refund or repair under warranty. Be carefull!
Method 1 – Phone
The easiest way is to use a special code in your smartphone dialer.
To do this, open the “Phone” application and enter the code *#06# , after which a window with information about IMEI1 and IMEI2 will immediately appear.
Method 2 – Engineering menu
It is not much more difficult to find out the IMEI of your smartphone through a special engineering menu.
Go to the smartphone settings and select the “About device” section, where we quickly click on “Kernel” five times.
The engineering menu will open, where the very first item will be “Version information”. It contains information about IMEI along with barcodes that can be scanned if necessary.
Method 3 – Packaging
The packaging and shipping film also contain information about the IMEI of the mobile device. You can trust it if you bought the phone and unbox it yourself. Otherwise, it would be a good idea to check if the numbers on the package and inside the phone match.
IMEI helps to find lost or stolen mobile phones, and also, in some countries (for example, Turkey), is linked to its owner.
